Costume for a cat for the New Year: get inspired and make it yourself. Making a cat costume How to make ears for a cat costume

Carnival cat costume is perfect for New Year's holidays, Halloween or any other themed gatherings. The good news is that such an outfit can be easily and quickly made with your own hands. This festive decoration will be an original solution and decoration of your personality. So, let's turn on our imagination and prepare a magnificent holiday outfit. A cat costume can consist of ears, a tail, gloves, a bow and tempting makeup. Let's take things in order.

DIY cat ears

This is an essential attribute of a cat costume. What will you need to pattern the ears? A sheet of paper, a plastic hoop, a pencil, scissors, thread and needle, beautiful felt (black, pink, red or any other) and glue. First you need to take a sheet of paper, bend it in half and sketch the pattern with a pencil.

When the pattern is ready, you can start cutting out similar parts from felt using these dimensions. Next, take the hoop, wrap the future ears around it and connect them with a thread from the outside. These ears will look very original if you add them with felt of a different color. For example, if your ears were originally black, take pink felt, cut out the ears according to the pattern, but make them 1-2 cm smaller. Then stick them on top of the already finished black ears. That’s it, the original cat ears are ready.

DIY cat tail

To make this element of the costume you need:

  • 3 cardboard tubes (can be taken from under the rolled paper),
  • black stocking or golf, a small piece of black fur.

We put cardboard tubes in a regular plastic bag and wrap them tightly. Then we place them in a stocking and use a stapler to correct the lower part of the tail. We sew fur onto the end of the ponytail for beauty. You can insert a wire inside the tail, then your product will keep its shape.

Fur cuffs for a cat costume

This element of the costume will add fluffiness and brightness to the image. Making fur cuffs is quite simple. You need to take two strips of fur, about 5-8 cm wide, and sew them around the circumference of your wrist. For convenience, you can sew a thin elastic band into the fur, then this decoration will be easy to remove.

Fluffy skirt for a cat costume

When the main attributes of the outfit are ready, you should start creating a flirty skirt. The top of the suit can look simple: a black tights or a simple golf shirt. But a beautiful tulle skirt will come in handy. Here is the simplest option for creating such a skirt: cut black tulle into small strips (width about 20 cm, length - 40 cm). We use the back of a chair to make the skirt. We stretch the elastic band over it and tie it with a knot. Then we take strips of tulle and tie them with an elastic band in a strong knot. We carry out this procedure along the entire length of the elastic band. That's all. Thus, you can adjust the fullness of the skirt, that is, the more tulle you tie, the more full your skirt will be.

The finishing touch to the cat costume

A gorgeous cat look is impossible without spectacular makeup. And it doesn’t matter whether a child or a mature woman will be wearing such a costume. It must have a thin mustache, a neat nose and alluring eyes. This, of course, requires drawing skill, but even simple mustache lines can dramatically change the overall look.

Use your imagination and make a unique cat costume from simple materials. This outfit will undoubtedly attract outside glances, and you will become the highlight of the evening.

A graceful, affectionate and intelligent animal. And how beautiful! It is no coincidence that in some countries it is considered a symbol of prosperity and wisdom. IN Ancient Egypt they were respected and never offended. There has been a cat living in the palace of the Queen of Great Britain for many years, which is allowed to be present at all receptions. Both a child and a young girl can dress up in a carnival costume in the form of a cute cat. Making a cat costume with your own hands is not at all difficult. Its main attributes are ears and tail. Let's start with them.

Ears and tail

Any black and white outfit, complemented by neat triangular ears and a long tail, can be considered a cat costume. In order to sew them you will need:

  • black fabric (it is better to use any natural or faux fur);
  • white fabric;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • threads, needle;
  • cardboard;
  • pencil;
  • any filler;
  • hair hoop.

Work order

Make a pattern for the ears in the form of two triangles. One is 0.5 cm larger on both sides and 4 cm on one.

Cut out one black ear and one white ear along them. Turn the pattern over and cut out a couple more ears.

Attach the white triangle to the wrong side of the black one and fold the black edges 0.5 cm on both sides. Place a cardboard triangle inside.

Mark the places on the hoop where the ears should be and wrap the remaining 4 cm of black fabric around them, dripping PVA glue inside.

Make a tail pattern.

Cut out the tail into two pieces.

Sew them together, turn them inside out and stuff them with stuffing.

Sew the tail to a belt or suit.

Hair ears

If you have long hair, then it is not at all necessary to make ears from fabric or cardboard. All you need is two thin elastic bands and a few hairpins to make two cookies, as shown in the photo, which will look great, imitating cat ears.

By the way, two fluffy pom-poms attached to the girl’s hair will also solve the problem of the cat’s hearing organs.

Breast

To make our Murka truly elegant and festive, it is advisable to decorate the cat’s costume with a white breast - an openwork, lace or fur frill. It can also be made from white satin ribbon, assembled in loops of varying lengths.

Such a frill will decorate not only a girl’s carnival clothes. It will perfectly complement the catwoman costume. Be sure to attach a small black or red bow. Well, what would Murka be without a bow?!

Catwoman costume

A girl in such clothes looks magnificent and very erotic. The attributes for it can be used the same as for children's costume: ears and tail. For adult ladies, a white frill will perfectly replace a deep neckline and a bow on the neck.

Fur cuffs add fluffiness. It's very easy to make them. Take two strips of any fur 3-10 cm wide and slightly longer than the circumference of your wrist. Sew them into a ring.

You can diversify your clothes by sewing a fur hood. The photo shows the pattern of such an original addition. Separately, patterns for ear patterns are given, which are sewn onto a ready-made hood for adults.

They are cut out in four parts and sewn together in pairs to form triangular bags. Put some padding polyester and a piece of cardboard, cut according to the same patterns, into them and sew them to the hood.

Cat in a hat

If you still have a lot of time and material at your disposal, you can make a special hat with ears. The photo shows a pattern for such a headdress. It will perfectly complement both children's and adult cat costumes.

You don’t have to sew the hat, but use a ready-made one by sewing on ears made according to the patterns shown above. Ears on a brimmed hat look flirty. This costume can be made for a boy cat. If you throw a cape over your shoulders, put boots on your feet, and attach a sword to your belt, you get a chic puss in boots.

Makeup

One of the most important moments in creating a cat's image is applying the appropriate coloring to the face. Here is where your imagination can run wild. The catwoman costume will be complete. After all, a cat's face is not only black whiskers. Don't forget to draw:

  • three to four vertical stripes above each eyebrow;
  • slanted eyeliner;
  • nose, in the form of a black pipette at the tip of the nose;
  • above upper lip you can draw a stripe up to the nose and decorate the skin with black dots;
  • if you are depicting a tabby cat, you can make faint stripes on the cheeks.

Cat or cat costume

Having made the most necessary attributes, you can think about clothes. It needs to be selected or sewn in one or two tones. Of course, there are also three-haired cats, but it is difficult to convey this in a suit.

The black cat woman's costume looks interesting and elegant. A dark leotard, skirt or overalls can be found in any wardrobe of both adults and children.

Cat costume for cat

We have long learned to dress up our pets in clothes and even shoes. A cat in a cat costume looks funny. In the photo, Murka is wearing a simple cape, tied around her neck with a bow.

The Catwoman costume is a great choice. This is a strong, sexy and always recognizable image. Despite many interpretations, the cat jumpsuit is still relevant. Probably the most popular feline look of all time is the one created by Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. However, Halle Berry's sexy Catwoman and Anne Hathaway's image in The Dark Knight Rises are following him. Below are detailed instructions on how to create all these catwoman looks with appropriate makeup.

Steps

Part 1

Create the look of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman

    Buy a black vinyl jumpsuit. This is an important part of a Catwoman costume, and Michelle Pfeiffer's look is no exception. Try to find a jumpsuit with a long zipper at the front, a high collar and long sleeves. These jumpsuits are sold in costume stores and can also be purchased on eBay.

    • If you don't have the time or money to purchase a vinyl jumpsuit, you can use something similar from your wardrobe. For example, tight leather leggings or even tight black jeans.
    • A tight black turtleneck is a good top option.
  1. Embroider white stripes all over the jumpsuit. After all, you're trying to recreate Michelle Pfeiffer's costume, which was covered in white stripes. First you will need to draw lines on the suit with white chalk.

    • You can cover the entire jumpsuit, just the bottom, or just the top with white lines. Focus on the image of the catwoman you are trying to recreate. Take a needle and white thread and start stitching.
    • If your time is extremely limited, you can get by with strips of white chalk or paint them with some paint.
  2. Buy or make a cat mask. The black leather mask with cat ears is probably the most important element of Michelle Pfeiffer's look. For greater similarity, it would be best to buy such a headdress online from Amazon or eBay. These sites often sell complete kits that include a mask, gloves, and cat claws. But if you are short on funds, you can make such a headdress at home. Here's how:

    Make gloves with claws. The claws must be decent. All you need to do is get some elbow-length black gloves, a shiny material would be better, but any will do. Use scissors to cut sharp triangles on each finger.

    • You will need false black nails. The longer and sharper the better. The tips of the false nails should be peeking out from the triangular slits you left on the gloves. Ta-da-da-dam!
    • There are gloves on sale with the nails already glued, but by making them yourself, you can remove the gloves, leaving only the claws.
  3. Wear knee-high black boots. To complete the look, you will need black boots with very high heels. Polish them well before putting them on: a cat woman will never wear scuffed boots.

    Part 2

    Create an image of Catwoman Halle Berry
    1. Arm yourself with black leather pants or leggings. Halle Berry's look is a little different from the previous one, so a jumpsuit is completely optional. It is better that the trousers are made of leather or material with a moisture effect. These can be found at a costume store.

      • Although the trousers should be tight-fitting at the top, they should flare out at the bottom. These are exactly what Halle Berry wears in the film.
      • Using white chalk, draw lightning-shaped curves on the pants and cut them out with scissors to achieve a ripped effect.
      • Don't try to be neat: you want to make it look like you've been attacked by a horde of cats!
    2. Get a leather (or leather-looking) bra or bust. This suit should be quite revealing! For greater similarity, it is desirable that the top be leather, but if you do not find anything suitable, silk will do just fine.

      • If you have time before the day you need to wear a suit, why not try to get a flat stomach - the best accessory to go with it!
      • If you don't want to expose too much of your body or if you'll be outside, wearing a black jumpsuit with straps is a good alternative. Add a few rhinestones to it and cut it in several places to achieve the effect of being scratched by claws.
    3. Tie two black belts around your waist. Halle Berry's belt was fastened crosswise at the waist, connecting the bra with leggings. It will be difficult to duplicate this costume, but you can use two belts and cross them across your chest. Ideally, belts should be canvas, black or khaki, but in a pinch, anything will do.

      Buy or make a catwoman headdress. As in the case of Michelle Pfeiffer, the image of the feline anti-heroine Halle Berry is complemented by a neat headdress - a half mask with ears. This Catwoman is matte black with no white stripes on her costume. The ideal would be to buy an analogue of such a mask on the Internet, but, of course, you can try to make the same one using the above tips.

      Shoes should be black with an open toe. If you want to create an image as close as possible to a movie heroine, you need to choose black shoes with an open toe and heels medium height. However, any black shoes will do, as the trousers are dropped to the step and are not tucked into them.

      Find the whip and gloves. Accessories for this costume include black elbow-length gloves and a leather whip. You can buy a whip at a specialized costume store or on the Internet. As a last resort, you can paint the jump rope black.

    Part 3

    Create the look of Anne Hathaway's Catwoman

      Buy a black jumpsuit. The latest version of Catwoman was created by Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. This look is most likely the simplest of all the cat women. But this fact does not deny his hypersexuality!

      • The basis of the costume is a black jumpsuit with long sleeves and a zipper at the front. If possible, try to get a matte black jumpsuit, although a shiny vinyl one will work too.
      • If you can't get your hands on a jumpsuit, tight black leggings and a zip-up jacket or turtleneck will do just fine.
    1. Tie a thick black belt around your waist. It will imitate Catwoman's useful belt. However, if you can get your hands on a real holster belt, that would be great!

      Buy or make a black mask and cat ears. Anne Hathaway, unlike the other Catwomen, does not wear a cat headdress, settling for a simple black mask and a headband with cat ears that allows her hair to hang freely at the back. In this form, this version of Catwoman is similar to the image created in the Batman film series by Julie Newmar in the 1960s. Any simple black mask (that covers your eyes) will work for this costume, paired with a cat ear headband.

      Wear black gloves. Any long black gloves will work for this costume, but try to get ones that will cover your hands above the elbows.

The daughter was invited to take part in a reading competition. The performances of the second-graders were united by the theme “Animal Life,” and my daughter got a song about a star. What animals walk at night? Of course, cats. This is how this DIY cat costume for a child came about.

For the costume I decided to use a gray turtleneck, gray tights, a flirty blue skirt, and knit ears, a tail and a vest from fluffy white yarn as recognizable elements. And draw a cat's face on your face.

Materials:

yarn “Grass” (100% polyester, 150 m / 100 g.) 100 g., acrylic (or any smooth yarn) (thickness approximately 300 m / 100 g.) 50 g., knitting needles No. 8.0, hook No. 5 ,0, double needles No. 4.0, satin ribbon for ties, base for crocodile clips or bobby pins 2 pcs. or headband.

Description of work:

Vest

Since “Grass” yarn tends to stretch strongly, the cat costume was knitted using two threads: fluffy Grass plus smooth acrylic thread. The vest was knitted on knitting needles No. 8.0.

Cast on 30 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch to a height of 25 cm. This is the back of the vest.

Then divide the knitting into three parts of 10 loops each: on the outer loops continue knitting (vest fronts) with stockinette stitch, and close the middle 10 loops to cut the neckline.

At a height of 6 cm from the beginning of knitting the front, begin to make increases from the middle front in each row 5 times. The total width of the shelf will be 15 loops. Continue knitting until the height of the front is equal to the height of the back. Close the loops.

Knit the second shelf in the same way.

vest pattern for a cat costume

Fold in half and sew side seams.

Where the width of the front becomes 15 loops, sew on the ties for the vest. I used satin ribbons(melt the edges so they don’t unravel), or you can knit a chain of air loops.

The vest for the cat costume is ready.

Ears

The ears are crocheted in two threads using a 5.0 crochet hook. Knit a chain of 13 vp. + 1 v.p. rise. Knit in single crochets (st. b/n)

1 row. 13th century b/n (=13)

2nd row. 13th century b/n (=13)

3rd row. decrease, 9 tbsp. b/n, decrease (=11)

4 row. decrease, 7 tbsp. b/n, decrease (=9)

5 row. decrease, 5 tbsp. b/n, decrease (=7)

6th row. decrease, 3 tbsp. b/n, decrease (=5)

7th row. decrease, 1 tbsp. b/n, decrease (=3)

8 row. Decrease on three stitches of the previous row (=1)

For the ear, knit two triangles. Place them together and tie them with single crochets. In the corners of the triangle, knit three stitches. b/n from one loop to preserve the edge of the corner.

Knit the second ear in the same way.

Attach the ears with clips - crocodiles, bobby pins or a headband.

Tail

The tail was knitted in two threads on 4.0 stocking needles (you can take a larger one, then the tail will be thicker, but I used the largest stocking needles. On the other hand, on small knitting needles you get a stiff fabric, and the tail itself holds its shape).

Cast on 16 stitches, distribute evenly onto 4 double needles, and close into a ring (make sure the knitting does not twist).

Knit in stockinette stitch to a height of 15 cm.

Then I decided to make a bend in the tip of the tail. To do this, I knitted in shortened rows: knit stitches on three knitting needles, unroll the knitting and knit three knitting needles in the opposite direction, unroll the knitting again and knit three knitting needles plus the missing fourth. Knit a regular row.

Repeat knitting in short rows two more times.

Knit about another centimeter in stockinette stitch.

We make decreases for the pointed tip of the tail: at the beginning of each knitting needle, knit two stitches together. Decrease until one stitch remains on each needle. Cut the thread, leaving a piece for fastening. Thread yarn through the remaining four loops, pull and fasten. The length of the tail turned out to be approximately 22 cm. If desired, you can knit it longer.

It's never too late and never too early. And although the series of New Year holidays has already passed, I still want to talk about how you can make a cat costume for a girl at home.

Option 1

It is worth noting that there may be several costume options. The first one is simple. To do this, you will need a one-piece swimsuit for a girl, tights or leggings, and a thin blouse. The color scheme can be any, because it depends on what kind of cat the girl wants to portray. It can be white, red, black, gray and even three-suited. For a costume, tights and a blouse are put on the naked body, and a swimsuit is put on top of everything. The base of the costume is ready. But now you need to take care of the accessories. The cat must have a tail and ears. You can either make them yourself or buy them in a store. The kitty will also be decorated with a cute bow on her neck. A little light makeup and the girl is ready for the carnival!

Option 2

For a girl it can also be trouser. To do this, you will need a jacket and pants, which can be lined with thin fur along the edges if desired. It’s good if the costume is piece-piece, so it will be much more convenient for the girl to play and participate in competitions. Again, it is important to take care of the accessories, which may be the same as in the previous option.

Option 3

A New Year's cat costume for a girl can also be in the form of a light dress or a jacket with a skirt. However, in this option, you need to take care of leggings so that the girl can play comfortably with the children at the party.

Ears

When preparing a cat costume for a girl, special attention should be paid to the ears. They (in addition to the distinctive item) will also decorate the little lady's head. Making them won't be difficult. To do this, you need to cut out two triangles from fabric of a suitable color and sew them on the sides. Now there are two options: you can immediately sew up the bottom of the ears (after filling them with stuffing for toys so that they stand) and attach them to the hoop using Velcro or simply wrap them with thread. However, there is another, more accurate way: you can sew up the bottom of the ears under the hoop, by hand, so they definitely won’t go anywhere and won’t fall off.

Tail

When preparing a cat costume for a girl, you definitely need to make a tail. It is better to make it cone-shaped rather than cylindrical, it looks much more believable. If the cat wants to be fluffy, the tail can be trimmed with either tinsel or the selected fur.

Makeup

Today, even the youngest girls demand that their mothers touch up their makeup a little during the holidays. However, in the case of a cat, bright makeup will be inappropriate. It will be enough to line your eyes a little and focus on your nose by drawing a small black dot on it. Painting your lips a bright color is not recommended.

Material selection

In order to sew a cat costume for a girl, you need to choose a fabric that is not too thick. It's good if it stretches a little. This is necessary so that the child does not feel hot and comfortable at the holiday, because children are almost always on the move. You can also decorate the costume a little New Year's tinsel, so it will look brighter and more festive.
