Fine mesh skirt. A fluffy tulle skirt - how to sew? Pattern of a fluffy tulle skirt

From El@ana: I moved the question to the topic where such skirts were discussed.

Girls, greetings to everyone.
Need help with a skirt. I fell in love with it and want to try this in the spring. Long - covering the knees - maybe 5 centimeters longer than this one. I don’t want to add much volume at the waist and hips, but I want the bottom to be quite voluminous.

About the model (i.e. about myself) She is far from skinny - size 48, height 170. I'm afraid a strong gather at the waist will not look very nice.
I thought that this skirt was made of soft mesh. The pattern is probably a double sun with a strong gather at the waist. I can’t even guess how many layers there are; I have no experience working with mesh at all. The underskirt is most likely 7-10 centimeters shorter than the mesh skirt (by the way, should you cut the underskirt like a sun or like a half-sun?).
The overskirt seems to have two tiers (the tiers are the same length).
There is a beautiful beige, pink and gray soft mesh 12 meters wide by 3 meters (more than enough) and 2 meters of matching satin.
Help me understand how many layers to cut?
I'm thinking about how to reduce the volume at the waist while maintaining the fullness... What if the outer skirt is cut out with a small gather at the waist (1.5 OT), and the inner skirts are double sun without gathering at the waist? Or cut everything without assembly? Should we only make the top one or can we have one or two tiers inside?

Help with advice, experienced craftswomen, beg. And now I’ve bought the fabric, my hands are itching to start working, but I still can’t figure out what kind of “structure” needs to be assembled from the mesh.

This ballet skirt has long stepped from the stage into the wardrobes of thousands of women. The tutu skirt, or rather its more suitable variety for everyday wear - the tunik, also known as the tutu, is a favorite of fans of the series Sex and the City.

The main character Carrie Bradshaw wore such skirts with T-shirts, T-shirts, and jeans, successfully diluting some of the pathos of the shoppenka with simple everyday things. And search engines still accurately return examples of chopins for the query “skirt like Carrie’s.” The heroine of the series was dressed by the world's best stylists, but you can make such a skirt yourself. We offer three ways to sew a shopinka with your own hands!

Method one: almost no sewing

Necessary:

  • fabric for lining - satin will do, but you can experiment,
  • elastic band for the belt.

1. This skirt is made without sewing, very quickly. We decide on the length of the elastic band that will hold the tutu skirt. It is important that it can be easily removed through the hips. Sew the edges of the elastic.

2. Determine the length of the skirt. We cut tulle ribbons 5-10 centimeters wide and twice as long as the desired length. We bend the finished ribbons in half and tie them with an elastic band. We do this until we completely cover the elastic with fabric.

3 . The tutu skirt is ready! It is also worth taking care of an opaque petticoat or wearing this skirt with tight tights or leggings! Manufacturing details can be seen in this video:

Method two: simple, but fattening

Necessary:

  • the main fabric for the skirt is tulle,
  • fabric for lining - satin will do, but you can experiment.
  • Elastic band for the belt.

A very simple way is to cut out a “sun” skirt. Since tulle is often sold in rolls 2-3 meters wide, this will not be difficult. To create a pattern you need only two measurements: waist circumference and skirt length. We fold the fabric 4 times, to create a pattern we use the diagram:

1. We decide how many layers there will be in the skirt - so many “suns” and cut it. Since this type of cut is more suitable for fragile girls, and even people of average build are a little plump, it is better not to do more than three layers.

2. We prepare the lining: we cut it according to the width of our hips, along the length - 5 centimeters shorter than the chosen length of the skirt.

3 . Then there are two ways. First, we collect all the tulle skirts into one and fasten them with a belt to an elastic band sewn into a ring around the waist (it is important to check that the elastic stretches easily over the hips). We sew the finished design onto the lining skirt. We grind the edges of the lining (tulle does not need this). The skirt is ready!

4. By the way, tulle skirts can be made different lengths- sew the longest one closer to the lining, the shortest one outward. The result is a skirt that resembles a three-tier cake.

Method three: suits any figure, but you have to work hard!

1. This method is somewhat more complicated. Tulle is not cut by the sun, but cut into strips. The first is the width of the expected length of the skirt, the length is two hip circumferences. The second one is 5 centimeters narrower than the first one, and the same length. The third is 5 centimeters narrower than the second, the same length.

2. Just like in the first and second cases, we sew a lining skirt, but there are two different options.

3. You can make a skirt that gathers at the waist with an elastic band - then it’s easier to make the petticoat regular, rectangular.

You can make a skirt that fastens with hooks - in this case it is better to cut the petticoat in the form of an a-line or straight - but take care of the darts so that the skirt sits well on the waist and hips. Then she won't fill up.

4. At the back or side we make an incision 5-10 centimeters deep, and depending on the curvature of your spine, we cut it to the point where the skirt can be removed “through the legs”. We grind the edges and sew on the hooks.

5. Now comes the hard part. We take strips of tulle, and, armed with a needle and thread, we begin to “gather” them, so as to bring their width to the approximate girth of our petticoat. You can watch how to squash in this video:

6. The sewing method from this video can also be adopted, but we do it a little differently. We plan that we will sew the first tulle skirt onto the petticoat closer to the waist, the second - 5 centimeters lower, the third - the same amount lower.

7 . After this, we connect the edges of the assembled tulle skirts and sew them together, leaving 5-10 centimeters free at the top for the very top skirt.

8. Now the finished tulle skirts need to be sewn to the petticoat - no longer by hand, but using a machine.

9 . Then we remove the threads that were used to gather the fabric.

10 . All that remains is to design the belt - you can sew a grosgrain ribbon to the finished skirt, which will be tied at the back. Or sew two ribbons together to make a rigid belt, and attach loops and hooks to the edges. We attach it to the finished skirt. It should look something like this:

And now - some inspiring ideas on how to wear a tutu skirt and a chopin skirt:

Fluffy multi-layered tulle skirts go perfectly with the most ordinary tops and vests, sweatshirts and T-shirts. They can be worn to the office with a blazer, worn under a new look dress, or performed in a carnival procession or danced on stage.

Very little girls and mothers of babies in strollers are crazy about such tutu skirts. They are also adored by young girls and successful businesswomen. There are many options for how to sew a skirt from tulle, there is even the option of creating a breathtaking skirt with your own hands, practically without a needle and thread, and in literally half an hour.

Options for sewing a classic tutu with a three-stage underskirt and a circle or half-sun top skirt

You will need

  • Tulle, tulle, veil or organza (for our sample, tulle consumption is 6 m, 150 cm wide) - see below for fabric consumption options.
  • The fabric for the top panel of the circle skirt can be the same tulle, tulle, veil, organza, or completely different fabrics - from silk and cotton to synthetics and wool, but the fabric for the top skirt should not be too heavy.
  • Bias tape 15 m long for edging the bottom edge - see instructions for consumption options.
  • Elastic tape 6-12 mm wide, length = waist circumference + 2 cm seam allowance.
  • Cutting knife ()
  • Sewing threads.
  • Marking pencil ()
  • Pins()
  • Mannequin (preferably).

  • Do not sew with too long stitches, otherwise the fabric will immediately gather. If the stitches are too small, the threads of these delicate fabrics (especially tulle) can get “stuck” in the machine plate. The optimal stitch length is 2.5 mm.
  • For hand gathering, stick pins in as often as possible.
  • Do not forget to constantly iron your product while sewing. It is best to do this after each seam made. Iron the seam allowances at each seam and then press them to one side. Tulle, tulle, veil, organza, as a rule, are ironed at the lowest heat so that the fabric does not deform. For silk, cotton or wool (circle skirt), respectively, select a different heat setting.

  • To gather these fabrics on a machine, use the straightest, longest stitch. In addition, adjust (loosen) the tension of the lower thread - read about this in the instructions for your machine, most often this can be done by slightly loosening the screw on the bobbin.

Thus, due to the different tension of the threads and the long straight stitch, the fabric will gather automatically, and you will only have to make sure that you sew an even stitch. Don't forget to also leave long ends of thread at the end and at the beginning of the stitches for gathering.

Description of work

Step 1: cut the tulle

The petticoat of our sample consists of three steps. Each step is made up of panels 150 cm wide (= the width of the fabric) and 30 cm long.

The upper level is made up of 2 panels, the second (middle) level is made up of three, the third (lower) level is made up of five.

In total, after cutting, you should have 10 identical panels.

if you want to get a three-stage skirt from several layers, then the fabric consumption will accordingly double, triple, quadruple, etc. these data are for a skirt with a length of 87 cm, if you want to sew a shorter or longer skirt, the fabric consumption will also decrease or increase. Accordingly, cut out panels for steps that are shorter or longer. For example, if you want to sew a knee-length skirt, then cut the panels 15 cm long, as shown in the figure below.

with a smaller fabric width, cut out a larger number of panels for each step.

Calculate the number of panels (as well as layers of a stepped skirt) depending on how fluffy you want to sew a tulle skirt.

An elastic band can be sewn to the top edge of the top step of a tutu skirt. Or make a regular drawstring for an elastic band. To do this, when calculating the height of the panels for the top step, add 5-6 cm allowances for a one-piece drawstring.

Step 2: stitch the panels for the steps of the tulle skirt into a ring

Fold the two panels for the upper step with their right sides facing each other, stitch the side seam, seam width 0.5 cm, overcast the seam allowances together. Then sew the second side seam, and also sew the seam allowances together. You've got a ring.

Similarly, sew three panels into a ring for the middle step, then stitch five panels into a ring for the bottom step of the tutu skirt.

You have 3 rings of different diameters.

Attention: overcast all seam allowances together and iron to one side.

Step 3: Finish the bottom edge of the bottom step

Option 1: by typewriter or by hand.

Option 2: Finish the bottom with bias tape.

If you are sewing a three-tier bottom skirt with several layers, then process the bottom cut of each bottom step of each layer of tulle skirt.

Step 4: Sew the three steps of the skirt together

Measure the width of the bottom cut of the middle step of the tutu skirt. Gather the top edge of the bottom step of the skirt exactly to this length. To do this, sew long stitches on a machine or leave the ends of the threads hanging. Pull the stitching threads so that the length of the gathered upper cut of the lower step is equal to the length of the lower cut of the middle step.

Tie the ends of the threads in knots, distribute the gathers evenly across the entire width. Pin together the gathered edge of the bottom step and the bottom edge of the middle step, right side to right, and stitch. Remove gathering threads, overcast seam allowances together and press down.

Similarly, gather and stitch the middle step of the tulle skirt to the top step.

Step 5: Finish the top edge of the skirt

Option 1: overcast the top cut of the top step with a zigzag stitch or overlock. Cut the elastic tape to the required length and stitch the ends into a ring. Mark 4 identical segments on the tape. Mark 4 identical segments on the top cut of the top step. Pin 4 marks. Sew the elastic tape to the top edge using a zigzag stitch, stretching it so that the fabric lies evenly between the marks and the gathers are distributed evenly.

Option 2: make a drawstring under the elastic band. First sew the top skirt, see steps 5 and 6, then connect the top edges of the top and step skirt and then process it as a single layer piece. Turn the upper sections of the skirt 0.5 cm to the wrong side, then fold them again 1.5 cm, baste, sharpen the drawstring to the edge, while leaving a hole in the seam for threading the elastic tape. Thread the elastic tape into the drawstring.

Step 6: cut out the top panel

For the top panel, you can take any fabric - the same tulle (as in the sample) or silk, cotton, etc. First you need to draw a pattern or a half-sun.

On a large sheet of paper from the upper right corner, using a thread compass, draw a radius ® for the waist line and a radius (R1) for the line of the lower edge of the skirt (radius plus skirt length). Or, for the bottom edge line, set aside the length of the tulle skirt several times from the waist line down and put dots. Then connect the points with an arcuate line.

To construct a circle skirt, radius ® is calculated using the formula: ½ From (waist circumference)/3.14. If you are sewing a skirt with an elastic band, then instead of the waist circumference, take the hip circumference.

For a circle skirt (as in the picture below), the radius ® is ½ From / 3.14 / (2/4).

Attention: since our tutu skirt has elastic, the top cut should be calculated based on the circumference of the hips at their widest part (see the forum above).

Translation of terms:

Fadenlauf = direction of straight thread;
einreihen = gather;
word. u. rueckw. Mitte = middle front/back;
Stoffbruch = bend.

Place the skirt pattern on the fabric folded in half for the top of the skirt, aligning the dashed line on the pattern with the fold of the fabric, the thread direction line should lie parallel to the edge of the fabric. Thus cut out 2 panels.

Step 7: Sew the Overskirt

Sew side seams on skirt panels. Overcast seam allowances and press. Iron the bottom edge twice to the wrong side, then check the length of the skirt on the mannequin and only then trim it to the edge.

On the upper section of the upper skirt, mark 4 identical segments. Also mark 4 identical segments on the drawstring or elastic band of the lower step skirt.

Option 1: Turn the overskirt upside down, face down, and pin the top edge above the stitched edge of the step skirt onto an elastic band. Sew to the ribbon, evenly distributing the gathers, then fold the top skirt down.

Option 2: overcast the top edge of the overskirt, connect it to the top edge of the tulle step skirt and sew the drawstring as on a single-layer piece, see step 4.

Your skirt is ready!

Tutu skirt made of tulle “without sewing”

This option is suitable both for those who are in a hurry and for those who are just starting to sew and do not dare to start complex things.

You will need

  • , tulle, veil, organza of the same or different colors - the more fabric, the more magnificent the skirt will be.
  • Elastic ribbon in a color matching the tulle, 3-5 cm wide, length = waist circumference + 2 cm seam allowance.
  • Sewing threads.

For our sample, we took 2 rolls of tulle, 9 m each, in light and dark pink.

Description of work

Step 1: Sew the elastic band and cut the tulle

Place one end of the elastic band over the other and stitch twice or hand stitch. Cut the tulle into strips 60 cm wide, length = double the length of the skirt.

Step 2: Tighten the strip with a knot on the ribbon

Take one strip of tulle in your hand and fold it in half so that a loop is formed at the top (1). Attach to the elastic band (2) from behind. Turn the lower, open ends up and pull them through the loop (3). Carefully tighten the loop on the ribbon so that the tulle strip lies as even and flat as possible (4).

Step 3: Tighten the next strips of tulle onto the ribbon

Now tie a second strip of tulle close to the first with an elastic band. Make sure that the tulle stripes are directed strictly in one direction. We changed the color of the tulle stripes each time.

Step 4: Shutdown

Continue this way until all the tulle strips have been used.

Tip: tie the elastic bands tightly together. Just in case, it is better to have a supply of tulle, since it is difficult to calculate exactly how many ribbons you will need for your skirt.

DIY tulle tutu skirt

Elastic mesh (nylon with the addition of polyester) material with hollow cells of various sizes is used for sewing petticoats, as well as improvised multi-layer skirts of various volumes.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, petticoats, worn on a dense frame (“crinolines”), were sewn from stiff cotton fabric, which included horsehair. Modern products this kind sewn from tulle.

Features of working with a grid

  1. Before cutting, the fabric must be ironed to allow it to shrink.
  2. It is not necessary to process the edges of the mesh - it is not subject to shedding.
  3. When working on sewing machine use a thin knitting needle.

Before you start sewing a skirt made of mesh fabric, you should decide on the style of the product:

  • case for mini base;
  • or volumetric model “sun”;
  • or a three-dimensional “pack” model.

Volumetric mesh models are attached to an elastic band, which can be decorated with a belt. Creating tulle products takes a small amount of time.

Case for mini model

A transparent single-layer product is worn over a miniskirt or the base is put on a cover. The color of the mesh is selected in accordance with the color of the finished waist product. Short shorts can be used instead of skirts.

Progress

  • Place the product on top of the mesh fabric.
  • Wrap the mesh around the product, aligning its side seam with the mesh edges. Take into account the necessary allowances.
  • Raise the fabric 15 cm above the belt of the finished model.
  • From the bottom edge of the product, measure the required amount of mesh material.
  • Process the bottom of the cover
  • Cover the finished product.

Fold the 15 cm margin at the top and sew it to the base using a machine stitch.

Volumetric model of the “sun” type

The item consists of a certain number of semicircular parts (wedges) of the skirt and two lining parts.

Progress

  1. Fold the mesh piece into quarters.
  2. Determine the length of the product.
  3. Mark the waist level by drawing a radius in the upper left corner (equal to the waist circumference value divided by 6).
  4. Cut out the appropriate piece of multilayer mesh, taking into account the allowance (about 2 cm).
  5. Prepare the remaining fragments in the same way (the number of parts is limited by the degree of “splendor” of the future product).
  6. The lining is made on the basis of the A-line skirt pattern and is tightened according to the waist circumference using two parallel lines, the parameters of the lining part are calculated according to the hip volume measurement (the length of the lining will correspond to the length of the item minus 5 cm).
  7. Sew the lining piece to the product using a finishing stitch.
  8. Connect an elastic band into a ring (its width should be 1 cm less than the waist circumference).
  9. Divide the rubber ring into 4 parts - these are control marks (according to them, sew the multi-layer skirt to the elastic belt).
  10. Turn the product right side out.

Volumetric model of the “pack” type

A product of one, two or three colors is made from a certain number of strips of fabric, folded in half. For convenience, it is recommended to use mesh in small rolls rather than purchasing fabric by the meter.

The length of each mesh strip should be equal to the measurement of the length of the product, multiplied by two. The width of all fragments is the same - from 15 to 20 cm. With an increase in the number of blank strips, the degree of splendor of the “pack” will increase. The average number of stripes exceeds 100.

  1. Prepare mesh sections using a cardboard layout - a strip with a width equal to the width of a roll of cellular fabric (or 15-20 cm). The length of the layout is equal to the length of the future product. Wind the fabric onto a long cardboard plane until all the prepared material is used up. Cut multilayer workpieces at right or sharp angles, depending on the configuration of the lower edge of the future product. Make one cut just below the center of the cardboard model.
  2. Close the wide elastic band into a ring. The length of the ring is equal to the waist measurement minus 3 allowance centimeters.
  3. Pull the rubber band onto the spacers to the tension limit.
  4. Place two mesh strips on an elastic band and secure with a knot of rubberized thread so that all the resulting “petals” come out from one point. The rubber thread, folded in four, should go around each pair of strips twice. The ends of one thread can be used to secure two or three mesh sets.
  5. Spread each “petal” to give the product volume.
  6. The model can be decorated with a ribbon bow, beads, or a fabric flower.

Fabric density varies from 15 to 40 g per m². The smooth surface can be translucent, matte, shiny, printed, decorated with appliques, embroidery, or sprayed with a metallic shade.

The rigidity of the material directly depends on the size of the hollow cells.

To make decorative elements, hard tulle (or medium-hard material) is used, as it must retain its shape.

Various types of sewing products are made from soft mesh. The lining for tulle skirts is made from natural materials to allow the body to “breathe” under layers of synthetic mesh.

The knitted type of fabric stretches well.

Tulle (all its types) does not wrinkle and is considered a wear-resistant material.

The grid is more relevant than ever this season. It is inserted into the bodices of dresses, decorated with swimsuits, shorts, and even entire skirts are sewn. In brand stores, such a thing is not cheap, despite its ridiculous cost and extremely easy tailoring.

Delving into history, you can look into the 18th century: it was then that Parisian fashionistas began to throw thin translucent fabrics over their dresses, adding charm and sophistication to their image. And 100 years later, in the 19th century, the bravest girls, taking incredible risks, began to sew themselves dresses with transparent sleeves, which are so relevant in our time.

How to sew a mesh skirt with your own hands - master class

Transparent skirts are indispensable in the office, on a walk, or while traveling, depending on what you mean by transparency. The variety of fabrics in such skirts is huge: from chiffon, organza and lace, to mesh, which we will take on today.

Not all meshes are the same, so before you go to the store, it is better to decide in advance on the choice of exactly the one you need. If you choose a fine mesh, keep in mind that you will need more of it than mesh with large cells. The mesh with shimmer will shimmer beautifully.

We will need:

  • mini skirt matching the color of the mesh;
  • mesh fabric of the required length;
  • sewing machine, scissors.

If you don’t have a suitable skirt, don’t worry, we talked about how to sew one yourself very simply and quickly. Alternatively, instead of a mini skirt, you can take old short shorts. With the help of the mesh and your hands, they will turn into trendy skirt shorts.

When all the materials are at hand, you can start creating.

  1. Lay the net on the table and place your old skirt or shorts on top of it.
  2. Wrap the mesh around the skirt so that the edges of the mesh are on side seam skirts (take into account seam allowances), leave 15 cm of mesh on top of the skirt, and measure the required amount of length from the hem, depending on what result you want to get in the end: a long transparent skirt for going out, or an office pencil skirt with a mesh top . It’s better not to skimp on fabric here. Trim off the excess.
  3. Fold and finish the bottom edge of the mesh a little if it is not hemmed.
  4. Sew the mesh on the side to create a kind of “cover” for your skirt or shorts.
  5. Put the “cover” on the skirt, don’t forget about the 15 cm on top that we left at the beginning!
  6. Carefully fold the top 15 cm of the mesh inside the skirt and stitch using a sewing machine.

By the way, the “cover” can be inserted not outside, but inside the skirt, which will add a unique twist to it.

How to sew a mesh skirt for a girl

Stock up on a wide elastic band that fits the baby’s waist and patience.

  • Deciding on the length of a girl's skirt.
  • We cut the mesh into rectangular strips 5-10 cm wide and a length equal to double the length of the future Tutu skirt. The more stripes, the fuller the skirt will be.
  • We sew the elastic band and put it on the back of the chair.

Now the fun begins, and the baby can help you with this activity.

  • We begin tying the ribbons to the elastic band in even knots, as in the photo.

  • If there are a lot of ribbons, you can tie them in several rows.

When all the stripes are finished, all that remains is to drape the elastic with fabric, or leave it as is.

How to sew a mesh skirt with elastic

Using the principle of a Tutu skirt, you can make an outfit for a girl, an outfit for your bachelorette party, or even decorate the interior of a children's room! It all depends on your imagination and the amount of material.
