• How to choose thermal underwear - useful tips. • How to choose thermal underwear - useful tips What is it

When choosing thermal underwear, you must be guided by the following criteria

Type of activity

Thermal underwear clearly differs by type of physical activity. Depending on its purpose, it can have different properties: warm and retain heat; removes sweat from the surface of the body, leaving the body dry; have “breathing” properties, ventilate. Therefore, decide: do you need warming thermal underwear for every day; or thermal underwear for winter walks with a child; or for skiing; or for winter fishing and hunting. Thus, thermal underwear from Guahoo has a fairly simple but understandable classification: thermal underwear for low, medium or high physical activity.

Weather

Naturally, the lower the temperature, the warmer thermal underwear you should choose. However, there are some peculiarities here too. For example, for windy weather, Craft has developed special thermal underwear with inserts made of WindStopper® material, which is used only in areas necessary for complete wind protection and does not impede movement. And when training in the gym, you should choose functional thermal underwear with cooling properties. If high humidity is expected, then thermal underwear should be made entirely of synthetic materials.

When choosing the size, keep in mind that thermal underwear is effective only if it fits directly to the body without restricting movement.

As a rule, thermal underwear requires special care: washing temperature no more than 40°C, gentle spinning and drying at room temperature, otherwise the thermal underwear will lose its properties. However, not everyone will find it easy to follow these rules, so when choosing thermal underwear, pay attention to the care instructions. For example, Pro Zero thermal underwear from Craft can be washed at 95°C and does not shrink or stretch.

Materials

The correct choice of material from which thermal underwear is made is very important.

Since thermal underwear comes into direct contact with your skin, incorrectly selected thermal underwear material can cause allergies on the body. Therefore, before deciding on the choice of thermal underwear, you need to find out what it is made of - synthetics or natural materials.

TO natural materials relate cotton And wool.

Cotton It is lightweight and its fibers absorb moisture. No other fabric provides such comfort and the wonderful feel of natural fibers. Cotton breathes, washes well and is a hypoallergenic material. Cotton absorbs sweat and dries slowly, providing no insulation when wet, which can lead to discomfort and blisters. However, cotton can be a good choice when combined with other materials, such as wool or synthetic fibers, and cotton blends can be a good choice in the summer. In general, thermal socks containing cotton are designed for low physical activity.

Wool– one of the main natural textile fibers. Each fiber of wool is made up of millions of "coiled springs" that stretch and compress. The main properties of wool: elasticity (restores shape), shock absorption, wool warms even if wet, and wool does not interfere with the breathing of your skin. Wool can be included in thermal socks in different proportions, depending on the temperature to which the thermal socks are oriented. When wool yarn is woven into thermal socks, they become denser and thicker. This is the best way to retain heat, as the air becomes trapped in the wool fibers. Plus, wool keeps your feet dry because wool absorbs as much as 30% of its own weight before you start to feel wet.

However, wool takes a very long time to dry, wears out quickly, and, unfortunately, wool is not very pleasant to the skin, to the point of irritation or allergies to wool. Therefore, a mixture of wool and synthetic fibers is extremely popular in the production of thermal socks, since this combination solves all of the above problems.

In recent years, manufacturers of thermal underwear and thermal socks have used exclusively wool from Merino sheep. Merino wool is the highest class of wool. It includes all the benefits of wool listed above, but is distinguished by the luxurious softness and comfort of use, this is achieved due to the very small diameter of the merino wool fibers. Unlike traditional merino wool, it does not cause itching on the skin and retains its shape even after repeated washing.

Synthetic materials designed to meet specific needs, they combine the properties of natural materials, but are free from their disadvantages. Manufacturers combine synthetic materials in a wide variety of options to obtain the best results.

Synthetic materials include:

Acrylic– synthetic fibers that combine softness and warming properties with low weight and high strength. An inherent property of acrylic is its ability to hold lighter and brighter colors than its natural counterparts.

Nylon– a very strong, versatile, wear-resistant fiber. Thermal socks, made of nylon, can be thin and silky or dense and very elastic. Nylon is often used with other fibers to improve elasticity or increase durability.

Stretch Nylon– Nylon fibers are twisted and woven in a specific way to increase elasticity. The material becomes insensitive to tension and compression.

Polyester & Stretch Polyester– two hydrophobic (moisture-repellent) materials, well known for their durability, their fibers hold any color extremely well.

Polypropylene– the best moisture-repellent fiber that does not absorb any liquid. It can be used alone or with wicking outer layers that work together to wick moisture away from the skin and into the top layer of clothing. Polypropylene is very strong and the lightest of the synthetic fibers.

Developed fiber blends

4-Channel Polyester is a general term for high-tech four-channel fibers designed to move moisture and quickly evaporate sweat. This is one of the best materials with moisture-absorbing and moisture-wicking properties, as well as the shortest drying time. Such fibers include, for example, Coolmax® (high rate of moisture removal), Duraspun® Acrylic (amazing softness, moisture-wicking and warming properties), etc.

Gore-Tex®– wind- and moisture-proof breathable membrane. The microscopic pores in the membrane are so small that liquid cannot penetrate, but they are large enough to allow water vapor from the skin to escape to the surface without preventing the skin from breathing.

Holofil® Polyester– the fiber provides a high level of insulation, preventing the cold from penetrating the skin. Hollow fibers create a layer of air and retain your body heat. In combination with other materials, you will get a lightweight and exceptionally warm thermal sock.

Lumiza® Acrylic– an improved moisture-absorbing acrylic fiber containing micropores with capillary action that absorb moisture and then dissipate it by evaporation. Even though it is a very lightweight fiber, it also has insulating properties. In addition, it is soft, breathable and quick-drying.

Lycra®– DuPont patented improved spandex fibers. The material can be stretched in all four directions, after which it regains its shape.

Outlast®– temperature regulating fibers. Micropores absorb, retain, distribute and remove heat depending on the needs of the body. This minimizes changes in thermal comfort, neutralizing uncomfortable and potentially dangerous temperature extremes, regardless of the external environment.

Thermolite®- lightweight fibers with breathable, warming and moisture-wicking properties. This is achieved through a combination of thermally active polymers and small hollow fibers that quickly warm and retain heat.

So, let's summarize:

For active sports

Thermal underwear You can buy in our online store.

Thermal underwear- This is a multifunctional garment that fits close to the body and is designed to effectively retain heat or remove moisture that forms on the body. In addition to retaining heat, wicking away moisture, or doing both, thermal underwear must also “breathe.” This does not create a “steam room” effect, which, with prolonged exposure, can negatively affect the condition of the skin and some organs.

Thermal underwear must fit tightly to the figure to prevent wrinkles. This is necessary not only to ensure that the underwear is invisible under other clothes worn on top, but also to prevent sweat from accumulating in the folds. This helps cool the body and cause discomfort.

Thermal underwear is used in different cases:

  • active sports - skiing, running, snowboarding, cycling, etc.;
  • hiking and mountaineering trips;
  • performing various jobs that require prolonged exposure to the street in cold weather conditions;
  • fishing, hunting;
  • hiking in the cold season.

And for each occasion it is necessary to choose thermal underwear made from certain types of materials.

Now there is a very large assortment of all kinds of thermal underwear on the market. On sale you can find thermal underwear made from natural fabrics or synthetics. Sometimes they are combined in one product in equal parts.

It would seem that it is better to give preference to natural ones. But it is not always recommended to take such thermal underwear, since the natural material has the ability to absorb rather than wick away moisture. If you plan to move a lot, then this thermal underwear will not suit you.

At the same time, thermal underwear made from natural fabrics provides excellent warmth, so it is suitable for frosty and cold winters, for example, for ice fishing, when you will not move much.

Thermal underwear made of synthetics in combination with natural wool, despite being environmentally friendly and having excellent warming properties, can slow down the process of moisture removal if you sweat.

You should not adhere to the common opinion that synthetics are so bad. There is thermal underwear made from such high-quality synthetics that, firstly, it does not absorb moisture, but removes it, and even provides an excellent warming effect.

Thermal underwear made of polypropylene or polyester may be a good choice. The skin, of course, will not “breathe,” but thermal underwear is usually not worn “without taking it off,” right? Plus, when washed, the product will not change shape, shrink or stretch.

Let's look at the main types of materials used in the production of thermal underwear.

Polartec Power Stretch

Polartec Power Stretch is a highly elastic material with increased tensile strength for base layers of clothing.

Most elastic materials stretch within certain limits. Fibers that are stretched more are damaged, and the material can no longer return to its previous position, that is, it does not restore its shape. Polartec Power Stretch uses elastic fibers rather than simple ones. In other words, the elasticity of Polartec Power Stretch is ensured not only by the structure of the yarn, but also by the stretching fibers. This base layer stretches more harmoniously and allows greater freedom of movement while maintaining all the characteristics of the fabric.

The outer layer of Polartec Power Stretch has a coating that reduces friction with other layers of clothing and increases its abrasion resistance.

Distinctive properties of the material:

  • Elasticity in all directions without permanent deformation
  • Thick stretch fabric
  • Enhanced capillary effect
  • High breathability
  • Easy care

Polartec Power Stretch Pro

Polartec Power Stretch Pro, like the simple Polartec Power Stretch, is a highly elastic material with increased tensile strength for base layers of clothing. Polartec Power Stretch Pro offers even greater strength, which is achieved by reinforcing the fibers on the front side of the material.

An important feature of this material is the presence of a breathable membrane between the inner and outer layers. The outer layer of Polartec Power Stretch Pro has a coating that reduces friction with other layers of clothing and increases its abrasion resistance.

Distinctive properties of the material:

  • Elasticity in all directions without permanent deformation
  • Thick stretch fabric
  • Enhanced capillary effect
  • High breathability
  • Easy care

Polartec Power Dry

Polartec Power Dry- two-component material for the base layer of tourist and sportswear.

The inner surface of Polartec Power Dry draws moisture from the skin thanks to the capillary (wick) effect, and the outer layer distributes it over the surface to accelerate evaporation. The absorbency of many materials is achieved by chemically treating their fibers. But the chemical coating is washed off during washing, and the material loses its effectiveness. Polartec Power Dry provides a constant absorbent effect throughout the life of the fabric, since its ability to absorb moisture is based not on the chemical treatment of the fibers, but on their structure. This means that the absorption effect does not weaken with each wash.

The Polartec Power Dry FR version is a fire-resistant material. Highly visible in the dark due to its bright colors and reflective properties.

Distinctive properties of the material:

  • Enhanced capillary effect
  • Fast drying
  • High breathability
  • Light weight
  • Easy care

Polypropylene

Polypropylene– is still the best basis for materials (fibers, threads, yarns, linens, fabrics) used in the production of underwear sportswear, thermal underwear and thermal socks.

Among all synthetic materials used in this area, it has the lowest thermal conductivity. Therefore, polypropylene clothing allows you to best keep warm in winter and cool in summer.

Standard polypropylene retains heat about 17% better than polyester, and almost 1.5 times better than polyamide. And the thermal insulation of hollow polypropylene fibers is at least 30% higher than that of any closest competitors. At the same time, they are noticeably warmer than wool and do not have its disadvantages. The moisture absorption of polypropylene and its swelling in water are close to zero.

All polypropylene fibers are naturally bacteriostatic (do not create conditions for the proliferation of harmful microorganisms, prevent the appearance of unpleasant odors), hypoallergenic (cannot cause allergies), odorless, and non-toxic. Therefore, polypropylene is more often used in medicine and in the production of baby diapers (it is completely harmless in contact with skin and mucous membranes).

Thus, even from ordinary polypropylene it is possible to produce very warm, exceptionally light, moisture-wicking and quick-drying thermal underwear with excellent hygienic properties. Polypropylene is the best raw material for this.

Polyester

Polyester– light synthetic fiber, easy to care for. Perfect for spending time outside, removes moisture and retains heat.

Pros: does not require special care, it is easy to wash and dry. Relatively inexpensive (the price is comparable to the price of cotton models), performs its functions well in almost any weather conditions, and is excellent for moderate outdoor activity.

Flaws: Although the material removes sweat, an unpleasant odor may still remain.

Cotton

Cotton– soft and comfortable material. Cotton thermal underwear is pleasant to the touch and can retain heat. However, cotton can absorb moisture, as a result of which the laundry becomes damp and you risk quickly freezing. Cotton models are relatively inexpensive and are an ideal solution for those looking for a more economical option for thermal underwear.

Pros: a good choice if you are going to wear it indoors. Suitable for low physical activity. You will be comfortable and warm, and at the same time, you do not risk overheating.

Merino wool

Merino wool- a unique natural material that appeared as a result of many years of evolution. Scientists have not yet been able to create synthetic fibers with similar properties. The wool of Merino sheep has a uniform structure. It mainly contains downy-type fibers with villi up to 10 cm long. This structure, compared to ordinary sheep wool, makes it possible to retain heat much more effectively.

Distinctive properties of the material:

  • Merino thermal underwear is soft and does not irritate the skin at all. This effect is achieved due to the thin fibers from which the threads are made.
  • Has an antibacterial effect. The scales covering the villi contain lanolin - natural sheep fat. Among other things, it has disinfecting properties
  • Has a healing effect on the body as a whole, has a light massage effect
  • It absorbs and removes moisture well from the body, but does not absorb moisture from the surrounding atmosphere.
  • Has excellent thermal conductivity, very warm.

So, let's summarize:

For walking or everyday wear Thermal underwear made from both natural and synthetic fibers is suitable. If you want to give preference to fabrics with natural fibers, such as wool, it should be soft.

For active sports- for example, for jogging - 100% synthetics. For example, polypropylene underwear is suitable for active outdoor sports. The resulting sweat will be quickly removed, which is why such fabric will always remain dry. In addition, polypropylene underwear is a profitable option for those who will have to stay in the same clothes for a long time without being able to change (for example, when mountaineering). The same type of thermal underwear is also suitable for water sports.

In the same sports where intense physical activity alternates with relatively calm periods(snowboarding, skiing), it is better to choose thermal underwear made of polypropylene with the addition of natural fibers - wool or cotton. But you should definitely take into account that fabric made from natural materials tends to get wet, so after 6-8 hours such linen needs to be changed.

For seated fishing on ice- thermal underwear made of wool.

For home wear You can give preference to natural materials, such as cotton.

- At what temperature? Is this thermal underwear designed? Will I not freeze in it at minus 20, 30, 50 degrees?
So, you will freeze in any thermal underwear, even at minus 5, if you don’t wear anything over it.

If we talk about the maximum temperature, then only the upper temperature of use will be appropriate for thermal underwear. That is, the warmest, when you are wearing just thermal underwear and will be comfortable. Not hot and not cold. For example, when running through the forest, it will be fine for me at +4+6 degrees. On a bicycle or skis, at the same temperature, the speed is higher, it will be cold. But with the lower limit everything is much more complicated. Some manufacturers claim certain models of thermal underwear “for -15-25 degrees below zero.” How this is determined is not clear to me. After all, no matter what kind of thermal underwear, without putting on a windproof and, probably, a second warm layer on top of it, in severe frost it will warm a little worse than not at all. Since we are talking about sports thermal underwear for high activity, the main task of thermal underwear is not only to retain heat, but also to remove sweat from the body. The higher the physical activity, the better the sweat should be removed from the surface of the athlete’s body. If you want to buy sports thermal underwear, but your knowledge about them is limited, perhaps this information will be useful to you.

Sports thermal underwear should consist entirely of synthetic threads, no cotton or wool. Merino thermal underwear is good, warm, but absolutely not suitable for high activity, due to the fact that wool does not remove moisture well - it is more relevant for fishing. Cotton thermal underwear is pleasant for the body, but does not warm well and does not remove sweat well - such thermal underwear is suitable for everyday wear, i.e. low activity in not very cold weather. Synthetic threads do not absorb moisture - it is retained only between them, therefore, it is retained weakly and evaporates quickly. Therefore, Crivit sports thermal underwear should consist exclusively of synthetic fabrics.

Polyester- the general name for synthetic polyester fibers obtained from the melt of polyethylene terephthalate. Polyester has high strength and wear resistance. Polyester fabric retains its shape well, does not wrinkle, and is resistant to light. It is recommended to wash at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees, because... With higher heat, when washing in a washing machine, wrinkles may form that will be difficult to get rid of. Polyester Coolmax- polyester fiber developed by DuPont. with a four-core thread, providing stretching of the outer surface and having a surface area 20% larger than that of a round fiber, due to which it has increased capillary properties. This unique Coolmax polyester structure absorbs moisture released by the body and quickly transports it to the outer surface of the garment, where it quickly evaporates. Heat retention with thermal underwear made of polyester is achieved due to the zoning of the thermal underwear, thanks to the structure of the fabric - in places that require better thermal insulation, the fabric is not thin, but more voluminous and dense, and where maximum sweat removal is required, the fabric is thinner and mesh.

Polyamide- a synthetic fiber with excellent functional characteristics for the production of sportswear, including thermal underwear. Polyamide fabrics are light, quick-drying, wear-resistant, perfectly retain the shape of the product and do not require special care. Thanks to polyamide, the composition of thermal underwear ensures its wear resistance and long service life.

Elastane/Lycra/Spandex (elastane/lycra/spandex)- synthetic polyurethane fiber produced by DuPont, which has very high elongation - 6-8 times, without residual deformation, i.e., after stopping the load, the material returns to its original state. Adding 2% Lycra to the fabric is enough to improve the mobility of the fabric and maintain its shape. Due to lycra, the effect of maximum body-fitting crivit sports thermal underwear is achieved. Without this effect, it is impossible to ensure complete sweat removal.

Polypropylene- synthetic fiber with excellent hydrophobic properties, i.e. practically does not absorb moisture, while retaining heat well. Polypropylene remains warm and lightweight in wet conditions. The weave of such fabric is very loose; its surface is covered with a network of pores, through which sweat evaporation is freely removed from the body. The disadvantage of polypropylene is that it absorbs body odors, pills (forming small balls on the surface of the fabric) and melts when dried in the dryer or near a fire, causing a strong burnt plastic smell. Propylene requires more careful care of thermal underwear. Therefore, polyester, which pills less and has better resistance to high temperatures, replaced polypropylene

Thermal underwear should stretch well and fit tightly to the body, otherwise effective sweat removal will not be provided, just as sports thermal underwear should not hinder movements during physical activity. The seams of thermal underwear should be flat to prevent chafing of the skin, this is especially important during prolonged exercise.

For example, the composition of Crivit sports thermal underwear: polyamide 61%, polyester 31%, elastane 8%,
thermal underwear RedFox DryZone 37% Polyamid.Meryl@Skinlife 34% Polyamid 21% Polypropylen 8% Elastan

There should not be any natural threads in sports thermal underwear. Otherwise, they will become saturated with moisture and will extremely impede the removal of moisture, as a result of which the thermal underwear will dry very slowly.
Even in very cold weather, I would not recommend using mega-warm thermal underwear made of either merino or wombat wool... it doesn’t matter. It will retain moisture more strongly than modern synthetic materials.
While you're moving, you'll stay warm even in wet thermal underwear. Once you stop, the longer the thermal underwear takes to dry, the more heat you will have time to lose. Of course, any T-shirt made from Polyester Coolmax or Cooldry will dry even faster,
than thermal underwear, but it will practically not retain heat.

If you want to buy cycling uniforms in our online store, but find it difficult to choose the size, then when ordering thermal underwear, indicate your parameters in the comments: height, weight, chest, waist, hip circumference and we will help you with the choice of Crivit sports thermal underwear

Thermal underwear has long been firmly established in the lives of many of us, but the question of how to choose it correctly remains open. Thermal underwear is special underwear. Its properties are the removal of moisture from the body and the preservation of heat. We will tell you how not to make a mistake and choose high-quality thermal underwear in this article.

Fabric structure

Materials for making thermal underwear may vary. Preference is given to wool, cotton, polyester and polypropylene, as well as various combinations thereof. Synthetic materials help the thermal underwear wick away moisture, while cotton and wool give the body a feeling of comfort.

Cotton . The structure of cotton consists of numerous twisted microfibers, and makes the fabric very pleasant to the touch. Cotton also fits the body perfectly, absorbs moisture well and removes it away from the body. If the fabric gets wet through and through, the moisture will be retained near the body, creating a very unpleasant sensation.

Underwear made from 100% cotton is recommended for regular walks, daily wear, hunting, fishing, and also for sleeping.

Wool . Wool has an undeniable advantage - a warming effect. Its fibers imitate micromassage, increasing the intensity of blood circulation. In addition, high-quality wool underwear will last longer. Such heat-preserving and warming thermal underwear is indispensable for long walks in the cold.

Silk . Silk makes linen highly durable and wear-resistant. Linen with silk is very pleasant to the skin. Of course, silk is not used in its pure form, but is combined with synthetic material.

Synthetics . Synthetics have the ability to remove and not accumulate moisture, and a minimal amount of moisture quickly evaporates. Synthetic underwear is wear-resistant, less subject to deformation, and prevents the growth of bacteria that can cause sweat odor. Additionally, manufacturers can use special impregnations that increase the antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of synthetic thermal underwear. For such underwear, polyester, polypropylene, polyamide, elastane, nylon, polyacrylic, etc. are used.

Polypropylene much better than other materials, it removes moisture from the skin without getting wet. And yet, thermal underwear made from 100% polypropylene should not be worn for a long time, much less sleep in it, because polypropylene will significantly dry out the skin.

Polyester Its fiber structure is a bit like cotton. Thermal underwear made of polyester will last a long time, remain soft and wick away moisture well. An additional advantage of polyester products is that they can be dried on a radiator and ironed.

Polyamide Gives thermal underwear a smooth feel; it is soft and light to the touch. Almost all seamless underwear is made from polyamide.

Elastane , or rather its finest fibers, are added to thermal underwear to increase wear resistance and elasticity. The higher the percentage of elastane in the composition, the better the underwear stretches and does not leave marks after stretching.

Note that the best thermal underwear is always elastic. Thanks to its good elasticity, thermal underwear fits the body well and does not restrict movement, and also wicks away moisture well. High elasticity is ensured by the presence of special fibers in the thermal underwear fabric, namely lycra, spandex and elastane.

The main factors for choosing thermal underwear

When choosing thermal underwear, consider such an important factor as your type of activity. Manufacturers create models differentiated by the pace of physical activity.

For example, in the summer choose T-shirts, capris or shorts from thin and light materials, and in winter from thick fabric.

Choose any type and type according to your size, because... Large underwear reduces efficiency, and underwear a size smaller will restrict movement.

Do you prefer active winter walks in the fresh air? In this case, give preference to synthetic underwear, single or double layer, possibly thin fleece if the weather is very cold.

Do you like calm, leisurely walks in the park or forest? Or just want to feel comfortable and cozy on any winter day? Choose synthetic thermal underwear or underwear that contains cotton. If you have to spend a long time outside without moving or quickly freeze in frosty weather, wool or fleece thermal underwear will suit you.

Heading to a ski resort? What should skiers choose? For skiing, it is better to choose thermal underwear that wicks away moisture well, albeit less warm.

It should be noted that for skiers, as a rule, in the mountains where you ski for several days in a row, there is no opportunity to wash your clothes. Fortunately, manufacturers use antiseptic and special antibacterial treatments to reduce unpleasant odors. But this treatment is short-lived; after 2-5 washes it is washed out and you will need to go to the store for a new set of underwear. I would like to note that technology does not stand still and recently the finest silver thread has been woven into fabrics to combat odor. This thermal underwear went through a series of experiments in the most difficult mountain conditions, and after two months, in the absence of washing and with continuous wear, the underwear retained its qualities, remained pleasant to the touch and had no odor.
If you are a tourist, climber or yachtsman, then limit yourself to 100% synthetic materials, both in summer and winter. Only such thermal underwear can provide comfort and warmth when worn continuously for many days.

In general, the main advice is to choose thermal underwear according to your rhythm of life. You can't go wrong. And remember that The main function of thermal underwear is to effectively remove moisture from the body, you can also keep warm with a down jacket.

We wish you a good choice!

Thermal underwear(aka thermal underwear, second skin, first layer, thermo underwear) - a hackneyed, but always relevant topic.
The picture below shows mountains, New Zealand sheep and a petrochemical plant. All this is connected if the conversation turns to thermal underwear.

Today, only the “lazy” do not produce thermal underwear. The most interesting question is how this set of underwear made of thin material costs from 1 to 15 thousand rubles. can provide a comfortable stay for a person in any weather and any situation? If the packaging says “-5C...-30C”, this doesn’t mean that you can be outside only in this thermal underwear at this temperature!? How can manufacturers take into account what else a person wears as a 2-3-4 layer in order to claim such temperature characteristics?
Thermal underwear includes socks, long johns, T-shirts with long and short sleeves, and a balaclava. Modern thermal underwear has already been appreciated by people whose professional activities or hobbies involve everyday exposure to nature during the cold period. These specialists will not give bad advice.

First, a little theory.
Good thermal underwear performs two important functions: quickly removes sweat and retains heat.
Sweat removal occurs due to the structure of synthetic fibers and the structure of the fabric. Moisture removal by canvases is based on the capillary effect. Sweat passes through the synthetic fabric and does not linger in it. Then it either evaporates or is absorbed into the layer of outerwear. It is necessary to understand that underwear does not warm, but only retains the heat that a person gives off. Wool retains heat best, followed by cotton and viscose, then synthetics. Fleece or micro-brushed synthetic fabric is almost equivalent in quality to a thinner layer of wool. You cannot judge the performance of thermal underwear by first impression.

There are several classifications of thermal underwear, but I like the following two:
1. By composition:
- completely synthetic (propylpropylene, polyamide, polyester, elastane, artificial cellulose fibers and their combinations). Polypropylene wicks away moisture and is durable, while polyester adds strength to the product. Such synthetics dry quickly even on the body, do not form unnecessary folds, and are easy to care for.
- completely natural (Merino sheep wool, camel wool, cashmere, cotton, natural silk and combinations thereof)
- mixed synthetic fibers with natural ones in various proportions. Some people think this option is optimal. because the positive properties of two different materials are combined. But the percentage is important here.

2. By type of use:
- statics (winter fishing, slow hunting, some types of work in geodesy, construction, etc.)
- dynamics (all active sports, almost all tourism, running hunting, city and suburbs with minor reservations)
- mixed activity. This is a stumbling block for many. If it’s a big minus outside, then beginners use the thickest and warmest thermal underwear made of microfleece or wool, forgetting that when moving, all the layers may not cope with the body’s heat loss, and that’s when “little hell” begins.

My main requirements for thermal underwear: to be comfortable in it, the material is pleasant to the skin, tags and seams never make themselves felt. It is also very good when the manufacturer makes a large size chart so that everyone can choose the right size for themselves.
(I inserted screenshots of websites, because in the modern world, customer care begins with the Internet)

The New Zealand company Icebreaker has been specializing in the production of thermal underwear made from Merino wool since 1994. These comrades “ate” more than one sheep in this matter... gee-gee.
Merino wool comes from a special breed of sheep that is only raised in New Zealand. Products made from the wool of these sheep have excellent breathability and the ability to withstand cold.
Icebreaker has divided all clothing into the following lines: Ultralight (150 g/m2), SKIN200 (200 g/m2), BODYFIT260 (260 g/m2), SPORT (320 g/m2). The lines differ in the number of weaving threads, and therefore in the thickness of the product. Each layer can be worn separately, and at the same time, when combined with several lines - at the same time, like multi-layered clothing, allowing you to withstand temperature fluctuations.

15. Jahti Jakt
Finnish manufacturer of hunting clothing, shoes and equipment since the 1980s. That's why I like Scandinavian manufacturers, it's the laconicism of their clothes and reasonable experience of use.
Some informative information from the site: “Ordinary underwear gets wet when sweating, causing the thermal insulation properties to deteriorate. And it’s just unpleasant. Thermal underwear is free of this flaw: the fabric from which the thermal underwear is made consists of at least two layers, one of which serves removes moisture from the outer surface of clothing. Therefore, thermal underwear always remains dry and pleasant on the body."
Jahti Jakt offers one T-shirt in three camouflage colors for 1.7 thousand rubles. with "SCENTECH" lining (silver particles in threads) and eight sets from 2.0 to 5.5 thousand rubles. (100% Polyester)

The Janus brand was founded in 1895 in Norway and is one of the leading manufacturers of wool clothing in Europe. Australian merino sheep wool is used in clothing production. The purest water and safe dyes that have passed rigorous testing are used to dye wool.
There are four collections for men: Design Wool, Black Wool, SummerWool and Seamless.
The new JanusPro series includes four collections: Antiflame Regular Wool from 50% merino and 50% ProtexM; Antiflame Extra made from 80% merino and 20% ProtexM; Antiflame Plus made from 85% merino and 15% ProtexM; Antiflame Regular Cotton made from 60% ProtexM and 40% cotton.
