Caps and caps. Well forgotten old, new trend or are they always with us? How to wear a cap with a straight visor: tips from fashion designers What to wear with a cap for a woman in the fall

The cap and baseball cap have recently moved into the women's wardrobe from the men's, but we have already fallen in love with them for their practicality and zest, which is so easy to create with the help of this simple headdress.

It is suitable for both sports and city and country walks, and can also become a stylish part of a club look.

What to wear with a cap or baseball cap for girls and women what images can be created and in what styles, more about this below.

Stylish look with a baseball cap in a sporty or casual style

This is perhaps the most common way to wear baseball cap with sports or casual clothing. The combination of a knitted top, T-shirt, tank top or pie with jeans, leggings, or skinny jeans is as comfortable as possible and goes well with baseball caps.

This can include any denim at all and combine it in any variation with baseball caps and sports caps.

In these styles, such a “hooligan” way of wearing a baseball cap backwards is also acceptable.

Women's baseball cap and a combination of sport, casual and glamor

Let's highlight this combination as a separate eclectic style, since adding glamor elements can quite transform your overall look.

The baseball cap itself does not have to have an exclusively sporty look; we’ll prefer a black one with rhinestones, or a red tartan one, and the accents will change. You can choose a denim shirt, but with polka dots, or a miniskirt with a bright print, or maybe a black blouse with transparent sleeves will suit your mood.

Baseball cap with clothes in minimalist and oversized styles

Simple single color a baseball cap will look great on a girl, dressed , A“walks” with minimalism by the hand :)

A laconic cut and a one- or two-tone neutral color scheme, a minimum of details and the absence of prints will help create an image in these styles, and a baseball cap will fit perfectly into it. By the way, a baseball cap and a dress are best combined in the minimalist style.

Glamorous style and women's baseball cap

A baseball cap on a girl dressed in glamorous style is chic

It would seem that, baseball cap and glamorous style- incompatible. But no, and in a glamorous look there is a place for a women's baseball cap. Let's say, let it be made of black leather or, on the contrary, pink, and even slightly fluffy, and finding a suitable combination will not be a problem. For example, a lace skirt and pointed shoes, a black top and clutch, as well as a Marsala coat, and a spring look in glamor style with a slight gothic flavor is ready. But you can create a completely caramel look if you pair a pink cap with a jumper in a shade (trend for the spring-summer 2016 season!) and plaid trousers in pink, fuchsia and blue.

Women's cap in retro style

A preppy girl and a tweed cap is the perfect look

A women's cap with a straight visor - that is, a cap - is definitely the most fashionable headdress of the current season. If you know what to wear with it, of course.

We are fascinated by caps! Of course, a visor, retro charm, a rich history with piquant details and hidden inner strength are what modern women really lack.

They come in different varieties: leather and textile, denim, tweed, corduroy, velvet... With a decorative chain, button, applique. Or just like that. The color also varies.

Celebrities love caps! Kendall and Bella, Gigi and Kaia, Hailey, Olivia, Sofia - you all know these girls.

The cap is beautiful and versatile at the same time; it can be worn regardless of the season.

For example, when it’s cold, with an eco-fur coat or down jacket.

And when spring is around the corner, you can also put on a cap, your ears will no longer freeze.

And in the summer... Well, that’s what summer is for, to wear everything with minis, shorts, and jeans.

Of course, the cap looks most beautiful with long hair, either loose or gathered in a ponytail or low bun. But with short hair, it’s somehow not very good.

When planning to wear a cap, there are still a few things to consider.

It's best to wear it...

With something quite masculine

Combining a cap with masculine elements is great, but keeping the whole look in a masculine style will be too much, unless, of course, such a goal is specifically set. Choose a jumpsuit, a jacket, a suit, but make sure that the image is original - then you will definitely be noticed and appreciated.

With something very feminine

Playing with contrast is a common fashion technique that always works. Fluffy “fairy” skirts or, conversely, a revealing mini, an elongated coat or open arms (even stiletto heels will do) - that is, something cute plus something rough. And immediately bingo, profit and complete unconditional victory for your style!

With something sporty and dynamic

And why not combine the two trends? Easily! Nowadays, you can't just live and not have something athletic-style. For example, pants with stripes, T-shirts with a logo, Converse, in the end. Street stylers (and celebrities, of course) are sure that all this can be successfully combined with a cap! However, why not.

With some hint

The cap - if you look closely, listen and smell, it carries a tangible semantic load. First of all, of course, tied to basic human instincts. You shouldn't dress up like you're going to a theme party, but combining a cap and boots or complementing the look with racy accessories - for example, a tight-fitting necklace, studded bracelets, belts, a revealing top - is just the thing.

Originally a quintessentially American accessory, baseball caps, as the name suggests, originated as part of sports uniforms. However, back in the middle of the 19th century, American baseball players wore straw hats, which, it must be said, were bulky and annoyingly often flew off the players at the most crucial moments. The prototype of modern caps was first worn by players of the Brooklyn Excelsiors baseball team in the sixties of the last century. The elongated visors of Brooklyn caps (Brooklynians, it seems, were already style setters in the 19th century) provided excellent protection from the sun, and the caps themselves sat quite tightly on the head. It is not surprising that the practical style was soon adopted not only by players of other teams, but also by fans - this is how embroidery and prints, logos of their favorite teams first appeared on “baseball caps”.

The New Era company introduced the mass production of baseball caps in the 1930s, and they began experimenting with the length of the visors and fit, equipping the cap with an elastic part.

Over their more than century-long history, baseball caps have evolved from a sports accessory into a universal one: they are worn by military personnel and rappers, police officers and street art artists, auto mechanics and stars traveling incognito. And the caps themselves sometimes turn from a modest headdress into perhaps the most important detail of the image: just remember the baseball caps of hip-hop artists, topped with gold stickers, or the Balenciaga leather caps that the brand presented in its spring 2017 collection. Today, baseball caps are produced not only by sports companies, but also by luxury brands: even in the summer collections of Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli, they play an important role. Which, however, is not surprising: a baseball cap is perhaps the most laconic way to transform an image from inconspicuous to minimalist cool (just look at Ryan Gosling) or even provocative. However, as is often the case with accessories, the line between a successful look and a ridiculous look is dangerously thin.

HOW TO WEAR

1

Bend the edges of the visor. Always. Or rather, almost always: if you are a star (yes, exactly a star) of hip-hop, you can leave the visor flat. A bent visor has, among other things, a practical purpose: it better protects the eyes from sunlight and visually elongates the face, which suits almost everyone.

2

A baseball cap should fit perfectly - this is the main secret of its attractiveness. A larger cap will give you a sloppy look, while a narrow cap will simply be uncomfortable.

3

Do not wear caps with the visor backwards. Yes, baseball players often wear their caps backwards to make it easier to wear a face mask. It looks cool enough, but don't try it unless you have a good enough reason. Agree, a cap worn backwards looks pretentious and even infantile.

4

Don't wear it with a suit. A baseball cap worn with a business suit is a completely unacceptable combination. Despite the transformations that the baseball cap has undergone over the past decades, it has been and remains an informal accessory: wear it with bomber jackets, polo shirts, jeans, light sneakers, and baseball caps are inseparable with T-shirts. If you really want to combine a business style with a sporty one, wear a baseball cap with cropped trousers, sneakers and be sure to roll up the sleeves of your shirt; there will definitely be no need for a tie.

5

Be careful with logos. As we grow older, cheerful prints and funny inscriptions should naturally disappear from a man's wardrobe. Of this season's offerings, our favorite is the plain cotton baseball cap, like in the J.Crew or A.P.C. collections. When choosing an accessory with a print, make sure that it does not stand out from your image in gray tones with a multi-colored neon composition.

6

And one more thing: baseball caps with mesh are from the past, push them to the back shelf.

Caps, like many other items of clothing, have become a part of women's wardrobes. Initially, it took a long time for a male accessory to transform and become available to girls. But thanks to Coco Chanel, who said that you need to pay attention to two things - shoes and hats, caps have become an indispensable attribute of a woman's image.

Fashionable cap models

Today the cap exists in several versions. These include caps, baseball caps, and caps themselves. You can wear these hats in any weather. Warm models are perfect for winter and rainy autumn, and light cotton ones will protect from the sun's rays in hot summer.

First, caps appeared, intended in the 19th century for military personnel and high school students. French men were the very first to try all the delights of this headdress. A little later, the fashion for caps came to Tsarist Russia.

For greater convenience, the military cap was modernized into a “military” cap. It was made of hard leather, which allowed it to retain its shape. But such models were very uncomfortable due to their density, and it was decided to replace leather with wool. Now both the shape and the material met all the requirements of that time. Many prestigious educational institutions paid attention to such a cap. Since then, the cap has become the main attribute of the special uniform. Women's educational institutions also introduced this headdress into their everyday life.

And already in the 20th century, the well-known baseball cap appeared. Caps with a straight visor or a concave visor became a real hit at that time. All athletes began to wear them. Later, the sports element of clothing moved to the “wide circles”. Many companies, such as fast food companies, have made caps part of their look. Today everyone knows about caps and baseball caps. Girls wearing caps often attract the attention of men, as this accessory makes the look truly seductive and stylish.

Caps with straight visor

How to choose a cap?

If you decide to purchase this headdress, then pay attention to the following features:

1. Caps with a straight visor come in two types: five-wedge and six-wedge. Six-piece baseball caps fit better to the head, but have a seam at the front, which makes applying a large pattern problematic. But any image can be applied to five-piece caps.

2. It is also important to choose the right size according to your measurements. How to do it? All baseball caps have a label indicating the size.

  • If your head circumference is 52-57 centimeters, then your cap is marked S/M.
  • If head sizes vary from 57 to 61 centimeters, then choose caps with the M/L label.
  • If your head circumference reaches 61-64 centimeters, your cap is size L/XL.

This is an important point, since a cap with a straight visor must fit tightly to the head, otherwise a strong wind can blow it off.

3. Pay attention to the materials from which these hats are made. No one will argue that a cap made of natural fabrics is very beneficial for the scalp, it helps the skin breathe and the hair does not get electrified. But such models quickly wrinkle, get dirty and shrink when washed. A combination of natural fabrics and synthetics will help to avoid this.

4. Choose the right visor for your headgear. Why have straight visors become popular now and are they recommended by many experts? Thanks to its trajectory, such a visor does not block your viewing angle, which is very important when you are driving or playing various sports.

5. Make sure your cap also has a moisture-wicking lining. Girls in caps often appear on the beaches; under the scorching sun, the scalp begins to sweat, and if you do not allow the moisture to escape, acne and rashes may appear on the skin. A special lining will help to avoid this, which helps get rid of excess sweat and prevent heat stroke.

6. If you want your head to “breathe more” in the heat, then choose caps with a straight visor with eyelets. Eyelets are small holes located on each wedge. Such eyelets are framed with either metal or plastic rims.

What to wear with a cap?

Initially, caps were worn only by military personnel and athletes, hence the stereotype that this headdress is suitable exclusively for sports clothing. Today, the models of caps and baseball caps are so diverse that they can be combined with any clothing. Girls wearing caps do not necessarily wear trousers or jeans; many of them prefer stylish and light dresses, skirts and shorts. Heels and platforms are also appropriate in combination with this headpiece. You can wear caps at any time of the year.

Kinds

1. Baseball caps look best
at sports competitions

Example: Leonardo DiCaprio
Place: matches involving the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team

If we briefly tell the history of the popularity of baseball caps, then it is necessary to mention the 1980s, when baseball fans, following the example of athletes from their favorite teams, began to wear these hats to competitions. This is still done today, and it is here, in stadiums, that baseball caps look most natural. Apparently, Leonardo DiCaprio has an extensive collection of baseball caps: in the first row - logos of university sports teams Georgia Bulldogs, Rhode Island Rams, Long Beach State 49ers, Boston Red Sox, in the second row - Rice University, Florida Atlantic Owls, UCLA (University of California) and VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University).

Among other things, DiCaprio uses baseball caps against
paparazzi, pulling the visor right over his eyes.

2. Don't wear a baseball cap with a cassock.
or other formal attire

Example: Pope Benedict XVI
Place: summer residence of the Pope at Castel Gandolfo near Rome

The current Pope Benedict XVI actually loves hats - in addition to the archbishop's headdress and the usual papal cap, he once tried on a cap at the thirteenth FINA Aquatics Championships in 2009. But the Pope in a baseball cap in July 2010, relaxing at his residence, became a real sensation - many newspapermen put him on the covers of their publications and wrote: “With a gold chain and a massive decoration on his chest and a baseball cap on his head, the Pope looks quite like a boy.” . In general, think twice if you decide to wear a cap and cassock.

“Yo, all because I am the Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of all the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the All Church, Superior of all Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Servant of God... aya, buyakasha!”
- The Mirror newspaper headline

3. Don't wear your cap backwards
if you are already an adult

Example: Charlie Sheen
Place: the front exit of one of the New York hotels

The story of Charlie Sheen's downfall can be told in five words: cocaine, ego, television, backwards caps, immaturity. The photo, which shows the 45-year-old actor, shows one of Sheen's main mistakes: it makes you want to say, “Hey, man, you've grown up a long time ago.” But this is not all the complaints about the appearance of the egomaniac who lost his own television show “Two and a Half Men”. The cap from his own (failed) comedy tour, "Truth Torpedo," has his name on it - almost like walking out the door with a sign saying, "Hi, I'm Charlie Sheen. How can I help?".

Adam Sandler is another American comedian
exploiting (in this case consciously) the image of the infantile,
He also wears his caps backwards.

4. With a trucker cap
you will be in the mainstream

Example: Ashton Kutcher
Place: show “Setup” on MTV channel

The fashion police of the mid-2000s sounded the alarm: Hollywood stars were changing into trucker caps en masse. At the forefront of the trucker cap movement was MTV's Set Up host and rom-com hero Ashton Kutcher. The point was not at all in Kutcher, who, what can I say, these caps suited, but in the hundreds and thousands who repeated this simple detail of style after them. Later, Complex.com would include trucker caps in its list of “50 Things That Shouldn’t Happen in Men’s Fashion,” but with exactly the same caveat: Kutcher had nothing to do with it.

One way to wear a trucker cap - with the visor turned 45 degrees - can also be called controversial, but it all depends on the person. After all, to kill all ties to the 2005 pop star image, you can grow a full beard.

5. When going to poker, take a cap

Example: Matt Damon
Place: Charity poker championship Ante Up for Africa in Las Vegas

A baseball cap in poker makes a player a personality - not too eccentric - you didn’t come in a sombrero, but at the same time bright. The name will be forgotten, but the image at the table will be remembered. Thanks to his cap and resourcefulness, Matt Damon, along with his friends Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, won more than $25 million - not in one game, of course - from Ruderman Capital Partners CEO Brad Ruderman.

Example: Eminem
Place: poster from a 2002 youth magazine

No matter what Eminem does now, he will still remain a swag in our hearts - after all, in his youth he was noticed by real black hip-hoppers, and, judging by the film 8 Mile, for good reason. These days he wears his cap less often, but there was a time when Eminem only wore them. If you look closely, you can see that the main white rapper is wearing a durag bandana under his cap. These stretchy bandanas are used by African Americans to keep their hair in place while playing basketball, for example.

This is what Eminem and every other white rapper looks like
without a cap, but with a durag on his head.

7. Size matters

Example: John Travolta (left), Lil Wayne (on right)
Place: airport (left), recording studio (on right)

John Travolta ranks second among Hollywood stars with big heads after Dolph Lundgren. In the photo above you can see how awkward the little baseball cap on top of his head looks. Owners of large heads should recommend a trucker cap, hoods and hats with brims. Another case of a non-standard size is shown on the right - hip-hop artist Lil Wayne wears an oversized cap with a straight peak, which fits all his dreadlocks: a little advice - without dreadlocks, huge caps swing on the head and can easily fly off.

8. Try something new

Example: Tyler, head of the musical group Odd Future
Place: performing at SXSW in 2011

The five-panel cap worn by teen idol Tyler and the cycling cap raved about by streetwear sites Complex and Hypebeast are not exactly new, but very fashionable headwear designs of the last two years. If you put on a truck, you'll look like Ashton Kutcher; if you put on a baseball cap, you'll look like an old fart. Five panels - and you are young!

9. If you're not Hunter Thompson, don't wear a visor.

Example: Hunter Thompson and Johnny Depp as Thompson
Place: Las Vegas and the golf course

The visor suits almost no one and can only be used for practical purposes. It all depends on your income: if you are Hunter Thompson, then you will play golf in a visor, if you are a teenager, you will sell burgers at the checkout. But you should only walk around the city in a visor if you have enough self-irony.

Of course, there are exceptions to any rule: for example, everything is forgiven for a full beard. In the photo, actor Zach Galifianakis is wearing a red visor.

10. Don't obsess over baseball caps.

Example: Mos Def
Place: Mos Def's head

During his career, musician Mos Def changed dozens of hats, including classic baseball caps, but he never gave them preference: after all, there are beanies, hats, Panama hats, military caps, sailor caps, flat caps and bandanas - why limit yourself?
