Our countrywoman has been collecting frogs for 13 years now. Collection N.N. Matsko has more than 300 exhibits, there are specimens that were brought from different countries: Thailand, Egypt, Vietnam. At first, Natalia Nikolaevna looked for and bought frogs herself. And now, knowing about her hobby, her family, friends and acquaintances present her with figurines of these amphibians: there are garden figures, elegant figurines, and even Jewelry. An exhibition was held at the Center of History and Culture, where anyone could see most her collection of frogs - 190 exhibits were presented there.
Natalia Nikolaevna also collects antique irons (stovetop and oven) and bottles. Moreover, she does not do this on purpose. People bring it, knowing about her hobby; acquaintances give it to her. Except that sometimes he exchanges or buys something - if he really liked the thing.
Jack of all trades
As Natalia Nikolaevna herself admits, no one taught her to do needlework - she was interested in trying everything herself.
- In the 5th grade, I learned to knit from Baba Feni. At first I watched her knitting, then I started knitting myself. I remember the first thing I knitted was a hat with long “ears” and large pompoms. It was very fashionable then. During my school years, I also learned to crochet: I wove shawls, napkins, capes... A lot was knitted then, but there was almost nothing left - I gave it all away,” Natalia Nikolaevna shares her memories. – In the early 80s, macrame began to come into fashion. I then subscribed to the magazine “Science and Life” - it contained macrame lessons. Thanks to them, I learned to weave things using this technique. 
But most of all N.N. Matsko loves working with birch bark (she harvests it herself) - this activity is very exciting. This hobby began with a trip to Veliky Ustyug.
“In 1991, we were with friends in Veliky Ustyug and went into a shop where we could buy birch bark products,” says the interlocutor. “While everyone was looking at them, I watched women craftswomen working in the next room. The next day everyone went on excursions and walked, and I watched how they weaved birch bark. I looked at the craftswomen one day, then another. They noticed and invited me to their place. It turned out that they were teachers at a local art school, and in the summer they worked part-time by weaving birch bark. And for three days I learned from them: I watched what they were doing, and weaved along with them; if something was not clear, I asked. 
Natalia Nikolaevna also mastered the vine, but it is a bit difficult for women: preparing the material, debarking, soaking, there is a lot of debris, and it’s hard on the fingers. But when our fellow countrywoman began to make products from newspaper tubes, my skills in working with vines came in handy. More recently, less than a year ago, Natalia Nikolaevna became interested in this new type of creativity. Now her works are things that can decorate any interior and are a pleasure to look at. I can’t even believe that all this was made from ordinary newspapers.
But that's not all. Decoupage (a technique for decorating various objects), cardmaking (making postcards with your own hands) and quilling (the art of making flat or three-dimensional compositions from long and narrow strips of paper twisted into spirals) attract her, and Natalia Nikolaevna also loves to embroider and sew. But she does not intend to stop there.
- I noticed that as soon as I reach a certain level, it becomes uninteresting. “You always want to try something new,” admits N.N. Matsko continues, smiling. - I do a lot of things, but there is almost nothing left - everything is given away. People are pleased - and I'm glad.
Dress made from 1721 spoons!
- Where do you get ideas for costumes and unusual hats? – I ask Natalia Nikolaevna.
- I don’t know. Sometimes I see something on the Internet, but I still remake it in my own way. Various ideas haunt me. Each of my works is different from the other, there is not a single one similar,” admits the craftswoman. - I have long wanted to make a costume with birch bark accessories. This year I realized my dream - I sewed a dress from linen and decorated it with birch bark elements, and also made bast shoes, a handbag and a headdress. Now I’m weaving new bast shoes for this suit - bigger ones, otherwise I made the first ones for a small leg,” says Natalia Nikolaevna, showing the unfinished work. - 
Last year I made the Shapoklyak costume - the whole family was involved in the work. They made a hat, a bag and an umbrella from old records, and a dress from geotextiles and garbage bags. Two years ago I came up with a flower costume for my granddaughter. We used pieces of fabric that were left over from the curtains. We thought for a long time what to do so that the flower could open and close. We all came up with it together. My husband made a wire frame. As a result, the flower opened and closed as soon as the granddaughter, dressed in the flower, lowered or raised her hands.
But, probably, N.N. has the most time. Matsko went to the realization of an even more unusual idea - to make a dress out of... plastic spoons. Let's start with the fact that it took the craftswoman two years to collect the required number of these cutlery (and this is no less - 1721 spoons!). 
- It wasn’t the first time that I realized my dream. The fact is that the rows of spoons were bent inward. I had to sew them to the braid, and then fasten these rows together. My husband made a frame for the dress: plastic spoons - the material is heavy. For the same reason, I had to make straps, although at first I planned the dress without them. It took me a month and a half to make this dress,” Natalia Nikolaevna shares and adds. - Mostly I work at night. Creative thoughts don’t let you sleep - you want to do so much.
But seriously, during the day she has enough to do - work, rehearsals twice a week (Natalia Nikolaevna sings in the Energia ensemble), household chores...
Teaches what she can do
It's time to say that Natalia Nikolaevna Matsko is a teacher at school No. 1 named after Admiral A.M. Kalinina. She worked at the school for 28 years. Although Natalia Nikolaevna’s first education is as a builder - a master of industrial and civil construction.
– I worked in construction for 10 years. And when the new building of the Ustye-Ugolskaya school appeared, she began teaching construction there and was a master of industrial training. She entered the Cherepovets Pedagogical Institute in absentia and became a teacher. One day, Sergei Vasilyevich Solovyov, the director of school No. 1, where I was a graduate, invited me to work. I agreed and am still teaching here.
In her lessons, she instills a love of work and handicrafts.
- I give to children what I can do. We make topiaries - small trees for interior decoration, unusual postcards... The girls “light up” - they are interested in this, says Natalia Nikolaevna, smiling.
She loves her students, and the girls reciprocate her feelings. This is why Natalia Nikolaevna continues to teach, although she has been on retirement pension for three years.
- How will I leave my girls? - she says warmly.
Creative family
Everyone in the Matsko family is a creative person.
“Daughters Olesya and Ksenia graduated from the art and graphic department of Cherepovets State University,” says Natalia Nikolaevna, showing the creations of her daughters.
The head of the family is also a match for his wife. Vyacheslav Viktorovich is always happy to help in realizing Natalia Nikolaevna’s ideas: he will make a frame for a dress, and he will make any machine. But, probably, their most important creative project is building their own home. 
They have already been living “at a construction site” for three years, as N.N. says. Matsko. On the banks of the Sheksna River in Nifantovo stands their unusual house, which looks like a ship - even its windows are round, like portholes.
- It’s beautiful here in the summer! There is greenery all around, there are more than 450 species of flowers alone on the site,” says Natalia Nikolaevna. - We designed the house ourselves. They wanted to build a family home so that no one would have this.
There is still a lot of work ahead. Now the whole house is a place for the owners’ creativity; the project also includes a workshop where Natalia Nikolaevna can pursue her favorite hobbies.
“I like to be creative,” says the craftswoman and adds: “To be honest, I catch myself thinking how little I have yet done, but life goes on.” And my motto is: the best is yet to come.
