DIY fluffy decorations. How to make a pompom from fur? How to make a fur pompom for a hat? DIY mink fur pompom

With the onset of cold weather, any girl thinks about how she will look in the coming season. One way to update your usual wardrobe is to decorate it, in this case, with pom-poms made of silky natural fur or cozy soft yarn. Fortunately, making them is not difficult at all.

Preparatory stage

Before creating a pompom, you must first select and prepare the material.

Fur selection

When it comes to wearing, faux and natural fur are not very different from each other, but it’s still worth knowing a few features of each in order to make the right choice.

Features of faux fur:

  • easier to work with compared to natural ones;
  • it is easier to care for and can often even be washed in a washing machine;

Features of natural fur:

  • among natural furs, otter, sable and mink are considered the most durable, and hare fur wears out the fastest;
  • The easiest to work with will be mink and fox furs, they are pliable, have a thin core (the base on which the fur is attached), and the fur is not very long, so it does not interfere with work.

Advice! To check the quality of the fur, be it natural or artificial, run your hand over it, as if combing with your fingers. The more lint remains on your hand after this action, the poorer the quality of the fur you tested.

Washing and drying natural fur

New fur does not need to be washed, but if you decide to use a piece from an old fur coat, for example, then washing is a necessary preparation step.

For this, a special detergent for washing fur or a solution that you can make yourself is suitable. To do this you will need:

  • washing powder - 5 g,
  • ammonia - 5 g,
  • salt - 15 g,
  • soda - 10 g.

Mix all ingredients and dissolve in 1 liter of water at room temperature. Then, using a soft brush, carefully apply the solution to the entire surface of the fur and the inside, massage for 1 minute and rinse thoroughly under running water.

Note! The fur should dry naturally, at room temperature. You cannot dry it with a hairdryer or battery, as it can dry out, and the inner core will “shrink” from the high temperature and the cut will be irrevocably damaged.

Painting

If the old fur needs updating or you are not satisfied with the shade of the new one, you can dye it. This is done using a special dye, which can be found in specialized stores, or with regular hair dye.

Before using paint, test it on a small piece. To avoid surprises if the resulting color is not what you expected

Coloring is carried out in just a few steps:

  1. Treat the flesh with glycerin, petroleum jelly or any other fatty cream so that it does not dry out during the process.
  2. Paint the fur according to the instructions for the chosen paint.
  3. Rinse well under running water and then place in a warm vinegar solution (use 1 tablespoon of vinegar per 1 liter of water) to consolidate the result.
  4. Now re-treat the fur with the cream that you used in the first stage, and then pin the fur with buttons to any hard surface and let it dry. This way it will not shrink during the drying process.

To make the fur softer and more moisturized, between the dyeing stage and vinegar rinsing, you can treat it with any hair balm.

How to make a fur pompom for a hat with your own hands

We will need:

  • fabric chalk or soap,
  • stationery knife,
  • strong threads in the color of the flesh,
  • needle corresponding to the thickness of the mesdra (from 40 to 120),
  • thin lace or ribbon in the color of fur,
  • filler (even regular padding polyester or pieces of materials will do).

Stages of work:

  1. Draw a circle on the back of the mesh using a stencil or compass.
  2. Cut carefully to avoid trimming the fur.
  3. Sew along the edge of the circle using small stitches. When finished, do not break the thread.
  4. Take some filler and place it in the center of the circle, tighten the thread, fasten and cut.
  5. Add filler if necessary.

Sew the finished pompom where necessary. If you want it to be removable, sew one half of the rivet to it, and the other half to the product on which the pompom will be attached.

The larger the pompom, the larger the rivet it needs.

Caring for fur pompoms

Fur pom-poms do not require complex care, except for infrequent washing, for example, with one-time stains or at the end of the season, they require washing with a solution, which was described in detail above, or with a special product.

Advice! If the fur on the pompom has become wrinkled as a result of storage, simply spray it lightly with a spray bottle, comb it with a wide-toothed brush and dry it by hanging it upside down. When the pompom is completely dry, comb it again and it will take its proper form.

Yarn pom poms are very easy to make, we will look at several ways to create them.

Note! The size of the pompom depends on the distance of the thread from the core to the edge, and its volume depends on the number of circles wound.

Method No. 1

The simplest option.

Method No. 2

Making a pompom using cardboard rings.

A pom-pom made using this method turns out to be the most even and neat.

This way you can make a perfectly even pompom.

This is interesting! There are even special devices for making pom-poms from threads; they are similar to the devices that we made in this MK.

Method No. 3

This method is perfect for making small pompoms.

  1. Take a regular fork in your hands and wind the thread several turns between the 2nd and 3rd teeth to secure it.
  2. Next, wind the required amount of thread around all the teeth of the fork.
  3. Thread the thread between the 2nd and 3rd cloves and tie the main winding in the middle.
  4. Remove the threads from the fork. Cut loops of thread on each side.
  5. Fluff the pompom.

Method No. 4

A very simple way to make a lot of small pompoms at once.

  1. Take any stool and turn it upside down.
  2. Wind the required amount of thread around the legs.
  3. Cut a lot of threads of 7–10 cm.
  4. Take one short thread at a time and tie each one on the wound threads, at a distance from each other equal to the size of the desired pompoms.
  5. Cut the wound threads exactly in the middle of each segment.
  6. Label each pompom.

Advice! If you need a lot of pompoms at once, you can put 2, 3 or even 4 stools together and wrap threads around the corner legs. This way, the length of the winding will increase significantly, and, accordingly, the number of finished pom-poms.

The fashion for fur, regardless of its origin - natural or artificial - has returned, and this is noticeable not only in the increase in demand for sheepskin coats and fur coats, but also in the appearance of a large number of accessories using this material. This is especially true for fur pom-poms.

Soft funny balls, which previously “sat” only on knitted hats, today can decorate a bag, any item of clothing, even writing instruments. In stores, they ask for a lot of money for such an accessory, while at home it can be made in a matter of minutes and with lower financial costs.

Features of working with natural fur

To begin with, you should pay attention to the variety of materials from which you can sew a pompom. Due to the fact that this is an accessory, especially one that does not constantly come into contact with surfaces, most fur quality factors do not play a role. The only thing that professionals warn about is that you should take care that the pile does not come out with every touch, since it is likely that one day you will think about washing a product with a pompom, and after this procedure, suddenly only a short-pile base will remain. For the rest, whether you sew from mink, rabbit or mouton - the choice is yours.

  • If you use artificial material, you probably won’t have to worry about its safety in subsequent use. But with natural fur, not everything is so simple: experts advise washing it before starting work, especially if the skin is dyed, and there is a risk of subsequent shedding.
  • The composition of a homemade soft solution for cleaning fur is as follows: detergent and salt are mixed in equal proportions (1 tsp each), 1 liter of warm water is added, as well as soda (1.5-2 tsp). The liquid is applied to the fur with a brush, after which it is carefully distributed in the direction of growth and washed off with warm, clean water. It is necessary to dry the fur in a horizontal position, without using high temperatures: no hair dryer or battery.

It is also not advisable to iron the flap, but if it is necessary, turn on the steam and iron from the wrong side. After the shred is ready for use, it can be dyed, if necessary: craftswomen recommend using regular ammonia hair dye. Or start cutting right away. But for this you also need to know some nuances.

  • First, pay attention to the direction of the pile. For the long one, this is done very simply and by eye, but for the short one you need to run your hand. If the pile lies smoothly, you have correctly determined the “course”. Cutting against this direction is prohibited.
  • Secondly, remember that fur should never be cut with scissors, regardless of who owns it: this can only be done with a knife, razor or scalpel. Of course, this is a little longer and more difficult than using scissors, but the latter often damage the pile, as a result of which the finished product looks extremely untidy.

Professionals say that the pile of the finished product should face down, but this rule can be ignored. Especially if we are talking about a round pompom, with which it is easy to get confused where it is up and where it is down.

Of course, the general scheme of work for all such handmade accessories is the same, however, if you want to decorate your hat with a fur ball, you can make some mistakes and make the wrong side not too clean, since this point will be where the pompom will be sewn to the fabric, which means all the flaws will be removed. hidden. If you intend to make a single, self-sufficient accessory, much more care is required. That is why experts advise first to study step by step how to make a fur pom-pom for a hat with your own hands, and only after that take on more complex tasks.

  • To work, you will need a large piece of fur (about 15*15 cm or more, depending on the idea), as well as thick thread, cardboard (same dimensions as fur), a strong needle with a large eye, a knife or scalpel, chalk or soap, as well as soft filler. Its role is usually played by padding polyester, however, if it is missing, you can take even the most ordinary cotton wool or just pieces of fabric.
  • Draw a template for the future pompom on cardboard: it is best to make a circle, since it is not always possible to assemble a square correctly. Keep in mind that the product will be tightened, so the initial diameter should be larger than the final one. For example, for a pompom with a diameter of 7 cm, it is recommended to cut a circle with a diameter of 10 cm. Any flat object of the desired shape can be used as a guide.
  • Cut out the template, attach it to the fur flap from the wrong side, and trace it with chalk. Using a sharp blade, being careful not to dig into it and only work with the base, follow the outline of the template, cutting out a circle. It is recommended to do this with minimal pressure: it is better if you go along this “route” several times, but you are guaranteed not to damage the pile.
  • Thread a thick thread into the eye of the needle and, keeping it single, walk along the contour of the product with an over-the-edge stitch. In this case, be sure to save a small tail of the thread at the very beginning, and make sure that after returning to the same point you can also leave the same piece.
  • Using the same thread, begin to pull the fur into a voluminous ball. Knead the prepared filling in your hands so that it becomes as dense as possible, push it inside the future pompom, and tighten the edges as tightly as possible. The hole that remains should be very small. Tie the ends of the thread with a double knot, using a needle, tuck it inward, interlacing with the stitches.

When sewing a self-made pom-pom onto a hat or beret, make sure to do it in at least 4 points, especially if the decoration is large. And if you get a very large hole, go over it with a needle with a thread threaded into it, creating a cross pattern: this kind of barrier will prevent the filler from falling out.

In the 2015/2016 season, pom-poms attached to the handle of a bag or a mobile phone case, as well as woven mesh scarves with small fur balls in the cells, became fashionable. The operating algorithm is almost similar to that given above, but there are several nuances.

  • The filling in small pompom accessories is most often not padding polyester or fabric, but polystyrene foam, pre-cut in the form of a sphere, or beads of the required size. They are covered with a fur flap, and the edges are pulled together as tightly as possible. In this case, the fur can even be attached to glue.
  • Soft fur can turn into a ball, even if it initially looks like a square, and very dense fur (for example, a mouton) even from a circle does not fit well and bulges. In this case, experts advise making several darts from the edge to the center, closing them, and only then pulling the pattern into a ball.

For maximum reliability, the cut part can be processed not only with an over-the-edge seam, but also with an overlocker, as well as with edging, which, however, is only suitable for large pom-poms for hats, where this area remains hidden. In addition, the edge can be folded inward and hemmed, but to do this it is necessary to remove part of the pile from the front side to avoid excess volume.

With the cold weather approaching, each of us thought about a warm, cozy hat. The fashion industry is now developing so quickly that you don’t have time to keep track of the appearance of new hats. Still good old a hat with a boombox on the top of the head has not yet gone out of fashion and makes people happy, young and old.

Indeed, children wear such hats in autumn, winter, and spring, and adult men and women use them not only for winter sports, but also for everyday wear in a casual style.

Few people know, but The style of wearing a bomb on the head appeared a very long time ago - during the time of the tsarist army. Then a soldier could be distinguished from an officer precisely by the color of his pompom. In France, a pom-pom served as a kind of “protection” for sailors against head impacts during seas.

Today the pom-pom is very relevant. You can not only buy a ready-made hat with a pompom, but also make it yourself. Imagine that you have a hat that you would like to add something to. A pom-pom made of different materials would be an excellent solution. You can knit a completely new headdress and decorate the top of your head with a beautiful fluffy. It all depends only on desire and imagination.

You can make a pumpkin yourself using either a plastic tool or improvised means.. The first one is sold in craft stores, but it is quite difficult to find. In addition, they only come in certain sizes, which often do not correspond to our desires. We recommend making the accessory yourself. This will take very little time and will avoid additional expenses.

The material for the bubo can be chosen completely different, for example:

  • threads;
  • yarn;
  • textile;
  • dense tapes.

The choice of material depends entirely on the preferences of the needlewoman. If a children's or men's hat is being decorated, a pom-pom made of threads is more suitable; girls and women prefer elements of their fur. It is more practical to complement sports hats with small pom-poms made of yarn; everyday hats for going out - made of fur or fluffy yarn.

Making a pompom from yarn

For the first option, you will need cardboard, sharpened scissors, a pencil, an awl, and medium-thick yarn. Stages of work:

Due to errors in operation, the pompom may not be even enough. It's OK. Carefully, using your eye and your own patience, trim it on all sides.

For the second option, you will need a four-pronged dinner fork. With its help you can quickly make a small diameter pompom for a children's hat.

Take a yarn that is not too thick and, using gentle movements, begin to wind it onto the fork perpendicular to the teeth. Place the turns evenly to make the ball perfectly round.. When you think you have wound enough, pass a strong thread between the second and third teeth and pull off all the yarn. Tie a strong knot and remove the lump from the fork.

Using small sharp scissors, make cuts along the edges similar to the first option. After this, all that remains is to fluff and trim the pompom.

From threads

Thick threads make an excellent pompom or tassel, especially if you don’t skimp and use them in sufficient quantity. To make it you will need threads, thick cardboard, a compass or cup (saucer) of different diameters, a pencil, and scissors. Stages of work:

  1. The first step is to make the device. To do this, take 2 pieces of cardboard and draw round blanks using a compass or improvised means. Cut them out. Inside these circles, you need to cut holes with a smaller diameter (for example, if the large circle is 6 cm, then the small one is 3 cm). Place the two finished patterns together.
  2. After this, you can begin the process of winding threads. Do this tightly, overlapping, so that there are no gaps.. In this way, wrap the ring completely.
  3. If you want to make a two-color ball, then wind threads of one color on one part of the workpiece, and another color on the second. For a multi-color pompom, alternate threads of different colors.
  4. The next step is to use sharp scissors to make several cuts along the edge. Be careful not to let the product fall apart. Pull the cardboard “donuts” apart a little.
  5. Use a thick thread to pull the bundle between the spread rings. Wrap it several times and tie a strong knot. Remove the cardboard and straighten the finished ball. Trim any threads that stand out.

How to sew a fur pompom?

To work, prepare clean fluffy fur, a pen, chalk, a stationery knife or blade, a fairly thick needle with dense thread to match the color of the fur, padding poly (any other filler, for example, cotton wool, will do).

Choose fur (faux or natural) that doesn’t tangle, it will be easier to work with and in the end you will get a fluffy rather than bald product.

The technology for making a fur pompom is very simple, but requires care:

  • First, cut out a circle-shaped piece from fur scraps. Its size depends on the size you want for the future pompom. To get an even circle, trace a saucer, plate or jar. These actions are performed on the flesh (the fabric on which the fur is attached). Cut the workpiece only with a stationery knife: using scissors may damage the pile;
  • take a thread and a needle and sew the circle with large stitches using a seam over the edge, stepping back further so as not to break through the interior. If the lint gets caught in the seam, carefully remove it to a free position.. Please note that you do not need to secure the thread either at the beginning or at the end. Using the loose ends you will tighten the product. You can start tightening it as you go, so that it’s easier at the end;
  • prepare the filler in the shape of a ball and tie it with thread to secure it. Leave the ends long so that you can use them to secure the fluffy thing to the hat;
  • Place the ball in the middle of the round workpiece and tighten the product so that there are no gaps left. Don't forget to take the threads out for fastening. Tie the fur ball tightly;
  • straighten or comb the fur. All is ready!

More options for making pompoms

If necessary, the pompom can even be made from fabric. Fleece is perfect for such purposes: it does not fray, so the edges do not require processing. Cut the fleece into strips 1 cm wide. The length depends on the desired size of the product. Adjust the number of stripes yourself; the more there are, the more voluminous the finished pom-pom will be. Using a matching thread, tie all the strips tightly together. Fluff the finished element for the hat.

In a similar way, you can make a pompom from tulle. This decoration is perfect for a light hat for a little princess.

The current fashion season offers fur hats with pompoms. They are not cheap. The best way out is make your own pompom. By the way, thereby reducing the cost of the product to the maximum.

Tools and materials

Working with fur is quite difficult, but if you decide that you can handle the task, you need to stock up on special tools. To work you will need:

  • furrier's knife;
  • hand fur needles, threads;
  • thimble;
  • round pattern;
  • soap or chalk;
  • padding polyester

A furrier's knife is used to cut the skin. It’s quite difficult to do it yourself without experience and special skills. Professionals never use scissors! They cut only along the flesh, You cannot work on the fur side.

Important: Trimming should be done with extreme care to ensure that as little hair is trimmed as possible. The fewer hairs are trimmed, the more invisible the seam will be.

When working with fur, special needles with a triangular point are used. A regular needle may not be able to pierce thick leather fabric. You need to select a needle and thread in accordance with its thickness. When working with arctic fox or fox skins, use threads No. 80, for thin ones, for example, rabbit - No. 50, 60, for others - No. 40, 50. Threads are selected taking into account the color of the leather fabric.

To protect your fingers from pricks, use a thimble.

Use cardboard to make patterns. It is best to make the template round, this will make it easier to assemble the cut piece into a ball.

A thin piece of soap or chalk is needed to apply the outline of the template to the surface of the sandpaper.

The padding polyester will act as a soft filler for the pompom. If it is not there, you can use cotton wool or pieces of fabric.

Fur selection

Different skins have their own margin of safety. Otter fur is considered the most durable, followed by sable and mink. Rabbit fur wears out the fastest. But since the pompom does not constantly come into contact with surfaces, this characteristic is not of great importance.

The main thing you need to pay attention to is that the fur does not come out with every touch. This indicates its low quality.

If you are not a very experienced needlewoman, it is better to take soft fur (mink, fox). It will easily come together into a ball. And a dense one, for example a mouton, does not fit well and bulges. To give such a pompom a round shape, you must first make several darts on the pattern from the edge to the center. And only then pull it into a ball.

Fur dyeing

If you decide to use leather that is no longer new to make a pompom, it is likely that it will need to be painted.

On a note: Before you start painting, the fur must be cleaned of dirt. Otherwise, the paint will not be absorbed well and streaks will appear on the skin.

To prepare a washing solution, take the following for 1 liter of water:

  • washing powder - 5 g;
  • ammonia - 5 g;
  • salt - 15 g;
  • soda - 10 g.

The resulting solution is applied to the entire surface with a brush, and then washed off under running warm water.

With its structure, natural fur resembles human hair, so it is quite suitable for dyeing regular hair dye. Before starting work, try the paint on a small piece. This way you can make sure that you get the desired shade.

After dyeing, the fur is thoroughly washed and, to consolidate the result, placed in a warm vinegar solution for several minutes. It is not recommended to use a fan or hair dryer to dry the skin.

For painting, it is better to take dyes of a darker shade than the base color. Otherwise, you may get unexpected results. For example, when dyed blond, mink becomes yellow.

Sewing instructions

After everything is ready to go, we move on to the master class on making a pompom.

Main stages:

  • making a template;
  • cut;
  • sewing;
  • pompom filling;
  • fastening on the cap.

Draw a pattern on cardboard. When making it, keep in mind that the initial diameter should be 3-4 cm larger than the diameter of the finished product. Place the cut out pattern on a piece of fur and trace it with soap or chalk.

When cutting, the size of the fur is important. If it is a large collar, it is easy to cut out a circle of the desired diameter and start sewing. There will be no problems with how to make a pompom from a fur collar.

When using a narrow edge or fur strip, they need to be cut into several parts and sewn into a single fabric using a furrier's stitch. Then you can start cutting.

Before cutting begins, it is very important to determine pile direction. With long pile this does not cause difficulties. Swipe your hand briefly. If the pile lies in the right direction, it will look smooth.

Having cut out the part, go along its contour with a thick thread using a seam “over the edge”. The thread should be of such a size that you can leave a small part of it at the beginning, and the same part when returning to the starting point.

By pulling the ends of the threads, you will begin to pull the fur into a ball. In order for the filler to acquire the required density, knock it down in your hands and fill the future pompom with it. Pull the edges together as much as possible to prevent the filling from falling out during wear. Secure the ends of the thread with a double knot.

You can sew a pompom to the hat. To ensure it holds well, secure it in at least 4 points.

Making a chic fur pompom with your own hands

If you want to add an original accessory to your wardrobe, then try making a fur pompom for a hat with your own hands. Modern fashion only welcomes the use of fur accessories.

Materials for work

The process of making a pompom is divided into several important stages, but it all starts with the purchase of a piece of artificial or natural fur.

You will also need for work:

  • soap or pen;
  • round pattern;
  • threads to match the fur;
  • needle;
  • sharp scissors;
  • a piece of ribbon or lace;
  • synthetic winterizer as a filler.

Every girl has an old, no longer needed fur item at home. So, if you decide to make a pompom from your grandmother’s hat or collar, you will have to prepare the material so that the resulting product looks neat and beautiful.

Follow this diagram:

  • Wash. For this, prepare a solution consisting of 1 teaspoon of ammonia, 2-3 tablespoons of salt, 1 spoon of hair shampoo, 2 tablespoons of soda and a liter of warm water. Soak the fur in it and use a small brush to clean it. Then rinse off the remaining solution with plenty of running clean water and let the fur dry naturally.
  • Coloring. If you are not satisfied with the fur color, you can easily change it. Use regular hair dye for this. Prepare the paint of the desired color according to the instructions in the box and apply it to the fur. Perform all manipulations with gloves in order to rub the paint into the fibers as best as possible, and this will also prevent the appearance of unpainted areas. After the specified period of time, wash off the paint.

At this stage we will look in detail at how to make a fur pompom for a hat. The master class below will allow you to do all the work efficiently and quickly:

  • Place the fur, base side up, on a flat surface. It is advisable to secure it with pins, for example, on an ironing board.
  • Using a circular pattern, such as a cup or saucer, draw a circle on the surface.
  • Using sharp scissors, carefully cut out the circle, being careful not to damage the fur located underneath. If you are uncomfortable using scissors, use a utility knife.
  • Take a needle and thread, sew large stitches around the base in a circle. Make sure that while working, the thread is always inside the circle, and the front side is not noticeable.
  • Secure the thread with securing stitches.
  • Determine by eye how much padding polyester you will need to fill the pompom, then tie it with ribbon or lace.
  • Sew the circle to the very end, tighten the thread, thereby forming the future decoration.
  • Place the synthetic padding inside the pompom, leaving the tails of the ribbon outside, tighten the thread to completely close the hole.
  • The remaining ends of the tape will be useful for attaching the product to the hat.

Overall, making a pom pom with your own hands is an easy and quick task. And most importantly, it is low-cost. After all, the hat will cost less, and you can use any material. Yes, you can use faux fur or scraps of natural material. That is, the one you found at hand at home.

  • You need to take the material that is not damaged and, most importantly, does not “climb.” In other words, run your hand over the fur - if there is a lot of lint left on your hand, it is better to put it aside. Or better yet, throw it in the trash, because such quality indicates the unsuitability of the material.
  • Now you need to decide on the size of the pompom itself. But keep in mind that it will tighten as you work. We do all the work from the wrong side! Draw an even circle (for this you can choose the appropriate stencil or use a compass).
  • You need to cut the material exclusively with a scalpel or a stationery (very sharp) knife. Scissors are not suitable for this purpose as they may damage the integrity of the fur.
  • After which, large stitches are made along the edge of the mesdra (leather tissue).
  • You can begin to tighten the thread a little already during the stitching process. Just do not overdo it so as not to damage the fabric itself and break the thread.
  • Now let's take the filler. It is more often and more practical to use padding polyester, but foam rubber or cotton wool will also work. Places it in the rounded fur, and continues to tighten the thread.
  • When the thread is completely pulled together and the fur comes out in the shape of a pompom (circle), fasten the thread. By the way, it can also be used to attach it to a hat.

Sewing instructions

After everything is ready to go, we move on to the master class on making a pompom.

Main stages:

  • making a template;
  • cut;
  • sewing;
  • pompom filling;

Before cutting, it is very important to determine the direction of the pile.

Knowing how to make a pompom from a fur trim or a strip of fur with your own hands, you can decorate your headdress and always look fashionable.

Making your own pompom from yarn

If you liked the idea of how to make a pompom for a fur hat, but didn’t have any suitable material at hand, then use regular threads. You can make decor for a headdress from ordinary yarn; you will also need rectangular or round patterns to complete the work.

In principle, you can make a template yourself.

To begin, prepare a piece of thick cardboard, a ruler, sharp scissors, a pen, yarn and an awl. The operating procedure looks like this:

  • Cut out two rectangular templates from cardboard. Please note that the size of the bubo will be the same as the width of the rectangle. Leave a few centimeters to spare.
  • Take a ruler, determine the center of our rectangle, and at this point make a puncture with an awl. Then cut it on the right side to the puncture point.
  • Pierce the rectangle on the left in two places at a distance of a few centimeters from the edge, and use scissors to make cuts.
  • Thread a long thread through a needle, fold it in half, and thread it into the finished template.
  • Wind the thread from the ball onto a cardboard template.
  • Move the wound thread to the right, towards the large cut.
  • Then tighten the yarn as tightly as possible with a thread and a needle.
  • Sew the pompom several times in the center, fasten the thread, but do not cut it.
  • Insert scissors between the two templates and carefully cut the threads.
  • Remove the product from the patterns, straighten it properly and trim it with scissors.

All is ready! All that remains is to sew the pompom to the hat with a needle and thread.

In this case, use threads of several colors that match each other in color and texture. This element can not only decorate a hat, but also make the interior more comfortable.

In addition to the yarn, take a sheet of thick cardboard, two cups with different diameters, a compass, a needle, and scissors. The manufacturing scheme is as follows:

  1. Cut out two identical rings from cardboard.
  2. Place them together, then wrap them with thread.
  3. Wind the threads to the desired thickness, then insert scissors between the rings and cut the threads along the outer edge.
  4. Using scissors, trim the product and sew it to the headdress.

How to make a pompom from natural fur of mink, arctic fox, fox, silver fox, raccoon for a hat: description, photo

Of course, the general scheme of work for all such handmade accessories is the same, however, if you want to decorate your hat with a fur ball, you can make some mistakes and make the wrong side not too clean, since this point will be where the pompom will be sewn to the fabric, which means all the flaws will be removed. hidden.

In principle, we have already mentioned above that for technology it does not matter what material the fur is made of. And will it be natural at all? But we want to give a few more recommendations (or rather, small tips).

  • The ideal shape is considered to be a circle, but for a pompom you can take any geometric shape. Especially keep this in mind when you take scraps.
  • If you don’t have a scalpel or a stationery knife at hand, you can replace this with a simple blade. Once again, we repeat that scissors can damage the fur itself. You need to cut on a wooden or plastic board (so as not to damage the table).
  • After you have cut out the desired shape of the pompom, you need to pull the material into one ball. The needle should be thick so that it does not bend during operation. After all, the leather material is very dense.
  • By the way, you can take a strong thread and fold it two (or more) times. Just make sure that the eye of the needle is wide enough for the thread to fit through the hole.
  • We do not fasten the thread either at the beginning or at the end of the work! Moreover, to make it more convenient to tighten our circle, leave a little thread.
  • Some fillers are simply placed in the skin, while others are tied together with a ribbon. This is necessary so that when pulling, the fibers do not get under the thread and interfere with smooth operation.
  • After the fur is completely tightened, this ribbon is removed. But you can do it even differently. Secure the thread without removing the tape. And it is used to attach it to a hat.
    • By the way! Consider also the fact that it is in harmony with the fur itself. Yes, the ribbon will not be visible, but the red ribbon will be slightly visible through the white hat and light fur (for example).

Rabbit is a very accessible material that is also pleasant to work with. No, you cannot wash it in the washing machine either. Yes, and it is better to clean with dry substances. Above we have already indicated examples of how to clean fur (if it requires it). The rabbit is not picky.

  • If you want to make a rabbit pompom, no additional steps are required. We clean or soak (new skin) in the same way. Drying should only be done in the shade and in a place with good ventilation (but not in a draft).
  • You can cut out a circle or another piece of material (whichever you have).
  • Here's a small difference - this is cutting. The rabbit can be carefully cut out with scissors. But be careful not to damage the fur and fibers. If it’s not convenient or doesn’t work out, then use the usual tool - a stationery knife.
  • Next, we made stitches again and pulled the fur together, placing padding polyester inside. This material, by the way, does not roll or get knocked down. It withstands washing remarkably well, unlike cotton wool (it quickly clumps into a lump) or foam rubber (this can generally get damaged quickly).
  • Finally, attach the pom pom to your chosen hat.
    • Please note! I would also like to add that at least take 8-10 cm of fur (in diameter). This is for a small pompom. If you want to make it large, then you need to make a pattern of at least 15-20 cm in diameter.

Faux fur doesn't look as rich and may not last as long. But working with it is a little easier and faster, especially since everyone definitely has faux fur at home. By the way, this fur can even be washed in a washing machine. But also take into account the length of the pile itself. And yet, it is still better to do this procedure in a laundry bag.

  • All actions are completely identical, as in all previous options. Drew and cut out.
  • By the way, such fur is even convenient to cut with ordinary scissors. But they must be very sharp, and be careful not to get carried away and cut off the fibers.
  • In this case, the thread can be taken with a less durable thickness; the simplest thread will do. But don't use cotton fibers - they tear quickly!
  • Fill the resulting circle with filling and sew tightly. When washing, faux fur can be washed along with the hat. Therefore, the pompom was attached to the headdress itself using the same thread.

Pompoms make excellent animals for various animals. Moreover, fur only adds naturalness to the product. This is the easiest way to make a brooch - sew on eyes and make a mouth for the animal you like.

  • By the way, such brooches can even be attached to hair clips. It will look very original.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment and use your imagination – you can add ears and even a body to animals.
  • In general, a small pompom in a composition with stones will look beautiful.
  • Or make a flower (from stones or beads), and take the pompom by the core.
  • You can even make a flower from them. Or make another arrangement using pompoms. The main thing is to turn on your fantasy and imagination.
  • Use felt as an additional (or main) material. It is easy to work with and the decorations are very colorful.

How to make a fur pompom for a hat?

  1. We have already said that all procedures are similar. I would also like to add that the fur can be secured, for example, on an ironing board. This is required so that the fur does not slip. Draw a circle with soap (you can even use an ordinary plate or saucer as a basis, depending on the size). After all, also keep in mind that approximately 1 cm in diameter will be spent on the seam and fastening.
  2. The most painstaking task will be cutting. Again, we repeat that do not be discouraged if you do not get a perfectly even figure. This will not affect the appearance at all. Cutting fur from an arctic fox or silver fox, fox or raccoon is extremely inconvenient. They have thick and long fur, which, naturally, must not be damaged.
  3. Therefore, cut only with a scalpel or a stationery knife. And then, with small and careful movements, so as not to damage or cut the fur itself.
  4. And then, using the above technology, make straight stitches along the entire perimeter of the fur, pull the ends and secure the thread. Just don’t forget to add filler (sintepon ideally) to get a stable and desired volume.

I would also like to add a few words about the material itself - mink fur. It is quite easy to work with it, because the pile itself is of medium length. Therefore, with careful manipulation, the fur will remain as safe and sound as possible. Yes, and also, in the process of tightening the thread, smooth wool does not interfere with the work process.

What should be done? First of all, make the pompom itself, as we indicated above. Sew one half of the button to the hat, and the other half to the pompom. By the way, use the same thread that was used to secure the pompom.

How to fluff a fur pompom?

It happens that after washing or even wet snow, the fur may become slightly tangled. That is, to lose its natural splendor. It is not necessary to run to specialized places to eliminate the cause; you can eliminate this defect at home.

  • It is advisable to carry out this action with a special brush. Its difference is that the ridges should be long and sparse. Some craftswomen even make their own devices from thick needles or ordinary pins.
  • If you don’t have anything like this on hand at home, then take a regular comb. Well, or a comb. With long and sparse teeth.
    • By the way! I would like to clarify whether the arctic fox, mink or Montenegrin (for example) can lose their shape after rain. But don’t rush to comb them right away, just let them dry thoroughly. It is important to keep the fur away from the battery! And, in general, It is prohibited to dry fur items on or near radiators!
  • Alternatively, you can steam the fur well. You don't have to buy a steamer; you can hold the pompom over a boiling kettle. Or use a vertical steam iron, if available. But don't keep it too close. The fur tolerates low temperatures well, but is a little afraid of high temperatures.
