Round yoke with Norwegian pattern. Circular knitting: Circular pullover (sweater) with a yoke. Master class from Svetik NN

Annichen Sibbern combined the old Norwegian method of circular knitting with simple graphic design and it looked very modern. It was proposed to knit the body in two parts and join them together while knitting the round yoke.

Such patterns fit comfortably vertically into the design, forming a round yoke.

A jumper or sweater with a round yoke is knitted completely in the round, both the body and the sleeves.

Although a sweater or jumper with a round yoke looks complicated, it is not difficult to knit.

For calculations, the percentage method of E. Zimmerman is very good, that is, all sizes are calculated as a percentage of the main measurement - breast volume, which is taken as 100%.

The body and sleeves are knitted separately up to the armholes.

Then they are connected on long circular knitting needles and a yoke is knitted. The simplest way to set its shape is to place three rows of decreases between the stripes of patterns.

For a person of average build, the height of the yoke from the armpit to the neck is 25% of the chest circumference. It is necessary to divide the depth of the yoke into 3 sections. The yoke is knitted up to the middle without decreasing.

The first decrease is made in the middle of the yoke.

A row of decreases is worked like this: knit 2, 2 together in the round until the end of the row.

The second decrease is at the height of the yoke 2/3-3/4. In this row you need to decrease 33% of the stitches in the rhythm of knit 1, knit 2 together.

And the last, third decrease - 2-3 cm from the neck, in the rhythm of 1 front, 2 together, 2 together.

Decrease in this way is convenient to do if the pattern is arranged in the form of colored stripes, then the rows of decreases need to be adjusted between them.

If the pattern consists of tapering segments, the following method can be used.

In any case, the number of neck loops should be 40% of the chest circumference.

Traditional sweaters are not usually knitted sprout It is not difficult to knit it, especially since it significantly improves the fit.

After combining the body and sleeves onto circular knitting needles, you need to make to form a sprout: several additional shortened rows And only after that proceed to the patterned yoke. If the pattern allows, you can make several short rows between the patterned stripes in the middle of the yoke.

Size 46-48. Yarn: white 4 skeins of Alize alpaca royal (100g/250m) and for ornament, 1 skein of Children's whim in two threads and Alize baby wool in two threads.

Toe and circular knitting needles on fishing line No. 3 and 4.

I knitted a sweater from the bottom using circular and sock knitting needles.

Sleeves: Cast on 44 stitches using Italian cast-on needles No. 3.5.

The Italian set is clearly shown in these diagrams from the Internet

We knit the cuff to a height of 6-7 cm.

Then we switch to needles No. 4, add 12 stitches evenly and knit 4 rows in a circle using stockinette stitch with white threads. Then we begin to knit the pattern according to Fig. 1

At the highest point of the sleeve we have 72 loops on our knitting needles. Slip 11 stitches onto a pin under your armpit.

We also knit the second sleeve. Set aside both sleeves.

We knit the body part on circular knitting needles. We cast on knitting needles No. 3 172 loops (Italian cast-on). We knit a 2x2 elastic band to a height of 6-7 cm. Then we switch to needles No. 4 and evenly add 4 loops to match the pattern. We knit 4 rows in stockinette stitch and then follow the pattern in Fig. 1.

Then we need to connect all three parts in a circle.

Having connected in a circle, we begin to knit a circular ornament on the yoke.

This is how it turns out

After the ornament comes the openwork according to the pattern.

I used schemes 2 and 3.

I sewed the removed loops under the armpit using a kettel stitch.

This is what happened

Sample 24 (Fig. 25) shows an example of making a yoke elastic at the bottom.

IN in this case knit 1 p. knit, 3 p. purl. The knit stitches remain knit stitches throughout the entire height of the yoke, and the number of purl loops is reduced according to the appropriate rhythm according to calculation.

Sample 25 (Fig. 26, Fig. 26a) shows an example of execution yokes in the transverse direction.

In this case, partial knitting with shortened rows is used. When turning the fabric, you should wrap the outermost unknitted loop so that there are no holes in the fabric.

If you do not twist the loop, you will get openwork gaps in the fabric. When all the shortened rows have been completed, rows are knitted on all stitches. The wrap should be lifted onto a knitting needle and knitted together with the loop.

Sample 26 (Fig. 27) shows an example of making a yoke in the transverse direction using a braid pattern.

Sample 27 (Fig. 28, Fig. 29) shows an example of making a yoke tied at the top openwork patterns. In this case, two openwork patterns are used.
In Fig. Figure 28 shows the main openwork pattern, which is performed from the very beginning of knitting the product. Between the stripes of the openwork pattern are made purl loops. At the beginning of work between openwork stripes perform 1 purl loop. The number of purl loops gradually increases according to calculation. Loops are added along the edges of the purl strip in every 4th row.

When the number of purl loops reaches 11, a second openwork pattern begins to be made in the middle of the purl strip according to the pattern shown in Fig. 29.

Examples of knitting yokes

Sample 28 shows an example of making a yoke with an openwork pattern knitted from the bottom.

Cast on the required number of stitches and knit:
1st row - facial loops,
2nd row - purl loops,
3rd - 5th rows - knit stitches,
6th row - purl loops,
7th - 9th rows - facial loops,
10th row - knit 3 stitches together once with a purl loop, once with a knit stitch,
11th - 12th rows - with facial loops,
15th row - purl loops,
14th - 16th rows - with facial loops,
17th row - purl loops,
18th - 19th rows - knit stitches,
20th row - knit 3 stitches together once with a purl loop, once with a knit stitch,
21st - 22nd rows - with facial loops,
23rd row - purl loops,
24th - 26th rows - with facial loops,
Row 27 - purl stitches.
28th - 29th rows - knit stitches.
30th row - knit 3 stitches together once with a purl loop, once with a knit stitch.
31st - 32nd rows - with facial loops,
33rd row - purl loops,
Rows 34 - 36 - knit stitches.
In the 37th row, cast off all the loops.
The result is a yoke with a height of 10 to 15 or 20 cm. The height of the yoke depends on the thickness of the yarn. If the height of the yoke is not high enough, you can repeat rows from 24 to 33 one more time and thus the height of the yoke will be greater. But remember that its width will also decrease.
Samples 29, 30 show examples of making yokes with openwork patterns knitted on top.

Lopapeysa - Icelandic sweater.

An Icelandic sweater is easy to knit!

I really love knitting jacquard patterns. The feeling that you are drawing. You always want to see what happens? This love was embodied mainly in socks and mittens. Icelandic sweaters remained an unrealized dream for me. Not even the sweater itself, but rather a round yoke with knitted jacquard patterns.

Buying an Icelandic sweater is not a problem. But those who know how to hold knitting needles in their hands can easily knit such a sweater with their own hands, following my recommendations. I note that you can find a lot of information on knitting similar sweaters, but mostly they show how to knit an Icelandic sweater from the bottom. With this technology, parts of the back, front and two sleeves are knitted separately. Then everything is assembled on circular knitting needles and the yoke is knitted from the bottom.

I tried to knit an Icelandic sweater this way - unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. In general, I usually knit raglan sweaters “on top” on circular knitting needles. Even men's sweaters- without one seam. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s easier for me than sewing a sweater and finding out that it’s no good.

Knitting an Icelandic sweater using the method described below is very simple. Let's start knitting an Icelandic sweater, the pattern is as follows:

1. Knit from the neckline on circular knitting needles.
2. Calculate the loops as with regular raglan knitting.
3. We choose simple ornaments, approximately 6 rows high.
4. After picking up the loops and knitting in a circle, we knit the first pattern.
5. We finished knitting the first pattern.
6. In the next row we begin casting on loops. The quantity is determined as follows:
number of loops = count. rows of the pattern (multiples of 2) x 8. When knitting a raglan, the addition of loops occurs through one row - when knitting a raglan, the addition through a row is 8 loops (4 lines and an increase, each line has 2 loops).
If the pattern was 6 rows, then the number of loops that need to be cast on = 24. This number of loops needs to be cast on evenly throughout the entire knitting fabric. This can be done as follows: divide the total number of knitting loops by 24 and get the number of loops through which you need to add an additional loop.
If the result is a non-integer number, then one loop “back and forth” does not matter. You can equalize the number of loops when knitting the next ornament (or add a loop or knit “together”). It will be completely unnoticeable.
7. Count the total number of loops.
8. We check by what number the resulting number of loops on the knitting fabric is divisible without a remainder. Based on the obtained figure, select the next pattern and continue knitting the Icelandic sweater according to the above pattern until the required “yoke” size.
9. After the yoke is knitted, you need to distribute the total number of loops on the back, front half and two sleeves. As a guide, you can take the raglan calculation: back = front = total number of loops/3, sleeves = 1/3 of the total number of loops (multiples of 2).

There are a lot of ornaments that can be used to decorate Icelandic sweaters. For these purposes, you can use small fragments of complex patterns and alternate them in any order. The Icelandic sweater has a very beautiful ornamental pattern, which has one, but different thread colors.

Before you buy an Icelandic sweater, try knitting it yourself. It's easy!

Knitting an Icelandic "lopi" sweater.

LOpapeysa is a must-have item in any Icelander's wardrobe. This is a sweater made from the wool of Icelandic sheep with a characteristic, always recognizable pattern. A lopi will no longer be a lopi if it is not knitted from the wool of local sheep. But before this precious material falls into the hands of a needlewoman, you can feel free to train with your usual yarn. Traditional lopapeysa: without buttons, zippers, other accessories and fittings. However, the sweater has modernized and now often has all the signs of modern clothing. In Iceland it is equally popular among both young people and the older generation.

Knitting pattern for Lopapeysa

We present to your attention a program with which you can create an Icelandic knitting pattern wool sweater Lopapeysa. This program, developed by designer Sverrir Pétursson, greatly simplifies and visualizes the process of creating a traditional Icelandic sweater. With this program you can easily develop an individual design (choose yarn, collar color, create your own pattern), as well as choose right size and the number of loops in the repeat. And most importantly, you will be able to print out the entire detailed description of your Lopapeysa sweater with a calculation of the required amount of yarn and knitting instructions. For the program to work, the Microsoft Silverlight platform must be installed on your computer.

Let's practice on the sides.

This sweater is knitted from top to bottom (neck to rib) and has no seams.

This method of knitting is convenient because, if necessary, the product can be easily tied by unraveling only rows of elastic, and not the entire product.
Advice: Before starting knitting, I recommend reading tips on knitting items with a round yoke.

To knit a sweater with a round yoke, we will need:

200 gr. red yarn (100% wool, 50 g = approx. 100 m) Gjestal Superwash, color 204;
- 50 gr. yarn white(100% acrylic, 50 g = approx. 133 m.) Schachenmayr Nomotta Idena Plus, color 8253;
- circular knitting needles No. 3 and 4 (preferably 2 pairs);
- stocking needles No. 3 and 4.

Knitting description:

1. For the neck: On circular knitting needles No. 3, cast on 80 stitches with white thread and knit in a circle with an elastic band 1 by 1 for 25 rows.

2. For a round yoke: switch to needles No. 4 and continue knitting according to the pattern shown in Figure 1:

Figure 1. Knitting pattern for a yoke (click to enlarge).

Advice: It is convenient to knit the wide part of the yoke on two pairs of circular knitting needles: knit one row on the first pair of knitting needles, and the next on the second, etc.
In this case, there is no need to constantly move the knitting along the fishing line and, in addition, it is more convenient to determine the length of the product or even try it on the baby (just be extremely careful with the knitting needles when trying it on!).

3. On the 53rd row of the pattern, divide the knitting into 4 equal parts (80 loops each): front, back and 2 sleeves.
Transfer the sleeve loops to circular knitting needles No. 3 (you can also transfer the loops to a strong thread), and close the loops of the back and front into a circle (= 160 stitches) and continue knitting according to the pattern using knitting needles No. 4.

4. After all the rows of the pattern have been knitted, knit another 40 rows with stockinette stitch (or more, to the desired length) and in the next row switch to knitting with an elastic band 1 by 1, evenly decreasing 32 loops, knitting together every 4th and 5th. y loops (this will leave 128 loops in the work).

5. Switch to needles No. 3 and knit 17 rows with an elastic band, then elastically bind off all the loops.

6. Proceed to knitting sleeves: transfer the loops to stocking needles No. 4, close in a circle and finish the remaining rows according to Figure 1.

To form a bevel at the bottom of the sleeve, bind off 2 loops in every third row as follows: 2 loops together (tilt to the left), 1 knit stitch, 2 loops together (tilt to the right).
Thus, the sleeve bevel line is knitted similarly to the raglan line.

After all the rows of the pattern have been knitted, knit another 30 rows, and after 13 decreases, 54 loops will remain in the work. In the next row, switch to knitting with an elastic band 1 by 1, evenly decreasing 12 loops (knit every 4th and 5th, as well as the 8th and 9th loops together). In this case, 42 loops will remain in the work.
Knit 15 rows with a 1 by 1 elastic band and elastically bind off all the loops.

Finish the second sleeve in the same way.

7. Assembly: Fold the collar inward and sew to the wrong side of the yoke. Using a knitted stitch, sew up the holes formed in the armpit area when separating the knitting.

I have already written about round yokes in clothes, today we will talk about seamless lopapeyse.
In the publication I’ll tell you what it is lopapeysa, knitting basics, lopapeysa for a boy and a small dog, three female models and two jackets with this amazing pattern. You will also find many explanations and a program for calculating lopapeysa...

Lopapeysa or Icelandic sweater is a style of sweater that arose in the mid-twentieth century when imports of foreign goods displaced Icelandic folk goods. To use domestic wool, lopapeysa was invented. Most likely, the style of this clothing was borrowed from national costumes Greenlandic women. Sweaters are worn not only by women, but also by men.

For knitting lopapeysa it is used only fleece. Traditional colors are black and white, although you can now find a sweater in almost any color in Iceland. The traditional lopapeysa does not have a zipper or buttons, but stores sell a variety of lopapeysa, including ones with a zipper, buttons, and even a hood. (Wikipedia)

Luckily, we don't have to go to Iceland to own a sweater like this.

Although a sweater with a round yoke looks complicated, it is not difficult to wear.

The easiest way to define its shape is to place three rows of decreases between the stripes of patterns.

Traditional sweaters usually do not have a sprout knit in them. It is never mentioned in descriptions from advertising brochures; even famous designers often neglect it. It is not difficult to knit it, especially since it significantly improves the fit.

After combining the body and sleeves on circular knitting needles, you need to make several additional shortened rows to form the sprout and only after that proceed to the patterned yoke. If the pattern allows, you can make several short rows between the patterned stripes in the middle of the yoke.
