The temperature in classrooms is below +18 °C;

The epidemic threshold for incidence exceeds 25% of the total number of students in the school.

For adults who work a standard five-day work week, the New Year's holiday will be ten days this time. New Year We love you, among other things, because this holiday is exclusively family, and the first week of January is the time when all family members are free from work and school and can spend time together. Small vacations for adults also coincide with vacations for schoolchildren. Let's figure out when the winter holidays 2017-2018 begin school year in Russian schools, how long they will last, when students will need to return to school.

When are the winter holidays for the 2017-2018 school year in Russian schools?

We have already spoken, talking about autumn holidays ah in Russia, that in our country there is currently no unified vacation schedule for schoolchildren. Perhaps the lack of centralization in this matter will seem inconvenient to some, but there is a certain reason for this. The Russian Ministry of Education only talks about some of the standards that must be adhered to when planning school holidays. The right to decide exactly when children will have a rest is given to local educational authorities (departments, regional ministries, etc. departments, they are called differently in different regions of the country), and sometimes even to the director of a particular school.

The Federal Ministry of Education proceeds from the fact that local authorities know better how to properly organize the school holiday schedule.

Another nuance worth remembering is various shapes organizations of the educational process that currently exist in Russia. Theoretically, there can be a large variety of these forms, but in fact two are accepted: dividing the academic year into quarters or trimesters.

There is no need to explain to anyone what four quarters are. All Soviet schoolchildren studied according to this system, and it still seems reasonable and convenient. Trimesters are a more complex thing, and in pure form you won't be able to meet them. It is clear that if you divide the school year into three parts and, accordingly, give children rest only twice during the school year, it will be difficult for schoolchildren to cope with this. Therefore, in fact, it turns out that in schools that work in trimesters, intermediate grades are actually given for three trimesters, but the year is divided into six approximately equal parts - not only at the end of the trimester, but also in the middle of it, a week-long rest is provided for schoolchildren.

Winter holidays, however, differ in that they coincide in schools with different forms of educational organization. New Year's holiday is one of the central events of the calendar, so it must be taken into account when drawing up a vacation schedule in any school.

As for when exactly the winter holidays of the 2017-2018 academic year in Russia begin and end, the specific dates, left to the discretion of local education authorities, vary slightly:

  • In Moscow, winter holidays for all schools are from December 31 to January 10.
  • In St. Petersburg, winter holidays are from December 28 to January 10.
  • In Tomsk, winter holidays are from December 30 to January 10.
  • In Sarov ( Nizhny Novgorod Region) holidays from December 29 to January 9.

This list can be almost endless; we have given only a few examples that demonstrate how different the start and end dates of vacations are in schools in different cities of the country.

If we speak on average across the country, the winter holidays will begin on December 29-31 and end on January 9-10.

Holidays for schoolchildren for the New Year will be slightly longer than for adults. Let us remind you that working Russians will have a rest from December 30 to January 8. In most cases, children will return to school a day or two later.

The only advice we can give you is if your interest in the dates of the winter holidays is not idle, but is related to planning a family vacation, other trips, etc. – go to the website of the specific school where your children study. As a rule, such information is available on the school’s website, and if it is not there, check with the school secretary or class teacher your child.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as part of the school education reform, proposes to make changes to the educational process. The reforms will affect curriculum and child development. In addition, changes can be expected in the structure of the academic year, which many consultants and advisers recommend dividing into trimesters. Until this year, all public and most private schools divided the academic year into semesters.

Qualified experts are confident that this reform of the school curriculum is very important for the correct distribution of educational time. It will make it possible to make the periods of study between short week-long holidays almost identical. Such organization of the educational process of children school age will allow teachers and administration of educational institutions to more harmoniously distribute the educational load on the student.

5 2.5 hours
6 2.5 hours
7 3 hours
8 3 hours
9 3 hours
10 4 hours
11 4 hours

However, the reform of the structure of the academic year, apparently, will not come into force until 2018. According to the letter of the Ministry of Education and Science dated June 7, 2017 No. 1/9-315 “About the structure of the 2017-2018 academic year”, classes in general education institutions, regardless of subordination, types and forms of ownership, should begin on Knowledge Day - September 1 and end no later than 1 July 2018.

The academic year 2017-2018 will be divided into 2 semesters:

  • I semester - September 1 - December 22, 2017,
  • II semester - January 10 - May 31, 2018.

When are the school holidays 2017-2018?

  • Autumn holidays: October 30 - November 5, 2017,
  • Winter holidays: December 25, 2017 - January 9, 2018,
  • Spring break: March 26 - April 1, 2018,
  • Summer holidays: from the end of the school year to August 31, 2018.

Vacations are a long-awaited time for any student. Many people begin to want to take a break from classes from the first days of the term. Schoolchildren actively make plans for their free time, especially high school students who do not have much of it.

Parents are also not lagging behind - many of them try to take time off during the holidays to spend time with their children. Therefore, knowing in advance what dates the holidays fall on is important for many.

How are vacation dates determined?

The holiday calendar is determined by the Department of Education. However, there are pitfalls here. In particular, the established dates are advisory.

That is, the administration of educational institutions has the right to independently adjust the vacation schedule in accordance with the curriculum or any other internal factors. However, the changed dates should not be shifted more than two weeks from the official holiday dates.

Another reason for differences in vacation schedules is different shapes training. Some schools traditionally study in quarters, while others have switched to a more modern modular system - education in trimesters. Accordingly, the vacation schedule differs, and the Department of Education gives separate recommendations on dates.

Question about one-time holidays

The permissible freedom in setting the vacation schedule is the reason that in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the regions they often do not take place simultaneously. The question is whether this is correct Lately is being actively discussed. One-time holidays would make it more convenient to hold various events for schoolchildren, including Olympiads. True, they have not yet reached a common opinion, and apparently, schools do not want to lose their privilege to determine the rest time for students themselves.

  • Winter holidays: from December 30, 2019 to January 12, 2020.
  • Summer holidays: from June 29, 2020 to August 31, 2020.

  • Winter holidays: from January 25 to February 9, 2020.

In addition to planned holidays, school classes may be

School holidays are a time of long-awaited rest for any student. Both first-graders and future graduates count the days until the start of the holidays literally from the first days of the school year. After all, the 2017-2018 holidays are not just days free from school, but also a time filled with games, communication with peers, and vacation trips with family. The exact dates of the holidays are also important for parents, because many of them try to Keep your child busy as much as possible, send him on an interesting trip or take a vacation from work.

Both parents and students should know that the schedule is a guideline. That is, officials from the ministry can only indicate the approximate dates for the start and end of the holidays, but when exactly the days of the cherished rest begin is determined by a school order. Thus, vacation days may vary from school to school, even if the school follows the same curriculum.

The only mandatory rules include that school holidays must begin on Monday and not be “shifted” from the recommended dates by more than two weeks in either direction.

Holidays by trimester

The situation is similar with the trimester education system - the Ministry of Education has not yet prepared recommendations on the start dates of school holidays. However, in this case, calculating vacation time is much easier: in such schools, education is based on the 5+1 principle. That is, five weeks of training (sometimes six) alternate with a week of vacation. 35 days of school, then 7 days of vacation - and the cycle repeats again. The only exception is the winter, or more precisely, New Year's holidays. This rest time in schools with a trimester system coincides with the holidays in regular schools, where education is based on the principle of quarters. Approximate holiday dates in schools with a trimester education system:

Schoolchildren who communicate with peers from other cities in Russia notice that the start and end dates of the holidays often do not coincide. Why is this happening? One country, one specialized department that manages the learning process - the Ministry of Education, and the 2017-2018 school holidays in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities begin at different times.

The educational process can take place in schools in different ways. Some educational institutions study exactly according to the established plan, neither ahead nor behind the school curriculum. Others may fall behind the curriculum due to various force majeure circumstances.

The most things can interfere with your studies various factors. For example, for schoolchildren in Siberia, it is not unusual for an announcement like: “Today, due to severe frosts, schoolchildren from the first to the eleventh grade are not studying.” Due to low air temperatures, strong winds, snowstorms or blizzards, the municipal Department of Education may announce the cancellation of classes. Depending on weather conditions, only the lower grades or the entire school may miss classes. Less frequent, but also not something out of the ordinary, is the announcement of the cancellation of classes due to spring floods. Most reasons for missing school are force majeure, occurring due to circumstances beyond the control of the education department.
If only a few such “force majeure” days are announced per year - usually three to five - then there is an opportunity to “catch up” with the curriculum. However, when such “absences” accumulate quite a lot - from a week or more, then the school administration has to take unpopular measures among schoolchildren and reduce or postpone the time of school holidays. Such force majeure is the reason why the right to set rest times is left to the school director, and is not regulated by direct order of the ministry.

Additional holidays in the 2017-2018 academic year

Unforeseen vacations are a great joy for most schoolchildren, while their reasons are not at all cheerful. Additional vacations may be assigned or planned dates may be postponed for the following reasons:

  • severe frosts (at -25, lessons are canceled in primary school, at -28 in middle school, and at -30 in high school);
  • if the air temperature in the classrooms drops below +18;
  • exceeding the epidemiological threshold for a particular disease.

Vacations in 2017-2018 for students

In universities there are only winter and summer holidays between semesters. Moreover, unlike schools, their dates can vary significantly, depending on the curriculum of each particular institution. In addition, students need to undergo summer internship. In most cases, winter holidays for students in 2017-2018 will fall from the end of January to mid-February, and summer holidays will begin in July.

Could there be innovations in the 2017-2018 academic year?

Now the idea is being actively discussed that it is necessary to return to the old rules, when the dates of all holidays were the same for schools throughout the country. This is convenient for organizing Olympiads, various competitions, children’s conventions, etc. In order to find out public opinion in the capital, they even conducted a survey with the following points:

  1. let it be as it is;
  2. move from quarters to trimesters, increasing the duration of vacations between them;
  3. on the contrary, divide the school year into five parts, with a week's rest between them.

None of the points received a clear majority; most schools consider the current system correct, when they can independently adjust the dates of the holidays proposed by the ministry. Most likely, no significant changes are expected in the structure of the 2017-2018 academic year.
