This is a knitted hat for a 1-2 year old boy. We knit the hat from “Podmoskovnaya” yarn, the yarn composition is 50% wool, 50% acrylic; 250 g/ 100 m. But judging by the thickness of the yarn, it seems to me that the thread was actually thicker, which is usually the case at 230m/100g. For knitting, you need stocking needles (for knitting ties) No. 2.5, circular needles No. 2.5 for knitting elastic bands and circular needles No. 3 for knitting the main pattern, as well as an auxiliary knitting needle for knitting plaits.

First we knit the ties, for this we cast on 3 loops on a stocking needle and are 25 cm long. Then we begin to knit the ears. In the first row we add 1 loop to make an even number of loops, then we knit with an elastic band 2 by 2 (2 knit loops, 2 purl loops), adding in every second row one loop at the beginning (after the edge loop) and at the end of the row (before the edge loop loop). We finish knitting the eye when there are 20 loops on the knitting needle. We knit the second eye in the same way.

When both ears are knitted, we begin to knit the back of the hat. To do this, we connect both ears, casting 16 loops between them and knitting 4 rows with a 2*2 elastic band.

After the headband of the cap is knitted, add another 28 loops to make 112 loops. The repeat of the pattern is 16 loops, repeated 7 times.

We add repeat loops so that the elastic blends smoothly into the main pattern.

From 12 elastic loops we need to get 16 repeat loops. Consider two consecutive rows:

Last row of rib: * P2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2*

Next row (with additions): * P1, add 1 purl loop, P1,

K2, p1, add 1 purl, p1, k1, add k1, k4, add 1 k, k1*

When adding, be sure to note that there should be a large rope (4*4) in the center in front, and a small rope (1*1) in the center behind.

In even rows we knit knit stitches above the knit stitches, and purl stitches above the purl stitches.
