Do the laundry, cook for us.

How good it is that there is in the world,
Such help to dads, moms,

Always come to the rescue

But this is rare, only sometimes.

Thank you, thank you very much,
They tell you today from the heart,
May God give you health, strength, grandmothers,
And live up to at least a hundred years!

They bake pies, pancakes,
They are sitting on a bench,

To live beautifully for yourself,
Be cheerful and happy
Travel, Search
And don’t stand still!

Our country celebrates many celebrations dedicated to various categories of relatives. Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, and even brothers and sisters who have a common celebration date are noted by public attention. In the second half of autumn, you should address your congratulations to equally important members of your family - grandparents. Their holiday falls on October 28th.

How was the Grandparents' Day holiday formed in Russia?

Grandparents' Day in Russia appeared not so long ago, only in 2009. Then the Dutch Flower Bureau came up with a corresponding initiative, concerning, however, another state - the Netherlands. Our compatriots working in the same field quickly joined the implementation of the idea put forward abroad in their own country. According to some reports, representatives of show business played a certain role in the emergence of an unusual event in Russia: “star” grandparents, as well as their famous grandchildren. Since then, Grandparents' Day has taken root in Russian spaces.

The date for celebrating Grandparents' Day was not chosen by chance. The fact is that, according to the Slavic calendar, at the end of October our ancestors celebrated a very specific holiday called “autumn Grandfathers”. Its goal was to strengthen family ties with representatives of the older generation and unite all family members. The current goals of the celebration are more prosaic, but also quite significant: Grandparents Day should prove to older Russians their importance for society, for the country and, what is even more valuable, for their grandchildren.

Traditions for the celebration

According to tradition, on Grandparents' Day, celebrated annually on October 28 in Russia, the heroes of the occasion are presented with a flower in a pot as a gift. There is a simple explanation for this: the houseplant is an eloquent symbol of the long-term family cycle. In addition, it is customary to give specific flower crops to grandparents, depending on the meaning of a particular flower. So, for example, hibiscus is presented to an elderly person with wishes of longevity and prosperity, geranium - for material wealth, a room rose - with the intention of emphasizing one’s warm feelings to the person to whom the gift is addressed.

Another custom of Grandparents' Day in Russia is to organize a tea party with sweets in the family circle, which is always attended by the heroes of the occasion. The feast, as a rule, ends with a joint viewing of old photographs and immersion in memories of bygone youth.

Charity events on October 28

Many charity events take place on Grandparents' Day in Russia. In large Russian cities, government and commercial foundations organize meetings for older people, accompanied by the consumption of hot tea and various goodies. All interested grandparents can also attend free music concerts, exhibitions in museums, and go on interesting excursions. Some stores give elderly customers good discounts on purchases this holiday. Gifts from charitable organizations and volunteers are received in autumn holiday people in nursing homes. For example, a similar event took place several years ago in the capital - it was held under the motto “A gift with love.” IN Lately Various flash mobs are relevant on Russian Grandmothers and Grandfathers Day.

On Grandparents Day in Russia about interesting things.

  • Most elderly Russian citizens at one time provided all possible assistance to their own children in raising the younger generation. The share of such grandmothers from the total number of people living in our state is as much as 87%.
  • In Russia, every fourth child grows up in a family where, in addition to mom and dad, there is also a grandmother.
  • Psychologists say that the fact that a child stays with his grandmother in the absence of his parents instead of a nanny halves the likelihood of him receiving any physical injury. This is understandable, because control over the child of an older relative will be much more serious than that of a complete stranger, hired for money.
  • Long-term care for grandchildren (more than 9 hours a week), especially small ones, is fraught with an increased risk for grandmothers of developing heart disease and problems with blood vessels by 55%. And this is natural, since such a pastime is accompanied by nervous anxiety, and physical activity Same.
  • According to doctors, a pregnant woman who smokes gives the green light for her grandchildren to develop bronchial asthma in the future. The risk of developing this disease in her descendants doubles.
  • The most famous singing Russian elderly women are members of the domestic musical group “Buranovskie Babushki”. The eldest representative of the ensemble is 78 years old. In 2012, “Buranovskie Babushki” performed in the popular Eurovision contest, where they took second place.
  • According to the results of a sociological survey, Russians more often call their beloved grandmother on their mother’s side than their grandmother on their father’s side - 50% versus 14%.

  • Russian psychologists have identified a pattern that regular and long-term communication between children and their mothers and fathers’ parents reduces the degree of their hyperactivity and stabilizes the state of their nervous system.
  • The oldest grandfather in Russia died on September 7, 2012. His name was Magomed Nasibovich Labazanov. This citizen lived in Dagestan. The venerable old man never engaged in intellectual work, and did not even know how to read and write. However, he enjoyed excellent health and excellent memory, which he retained until his death. And it’s not surprising, because Magomed Labazanov never used alcoholic drinks, did not fall victim to smoking, adhered to the principle of rational and moderate nutrition, moved a lot and did physical labor. In addition, this man always remained faithful to his wife. Magomed Nasibovich passed away at the age of 122.
  • Nanu Shaova is considered the oldest grandmother in our country. The woman lives in Kabardino-Balkaria, she is 127 years old. The Russian woman is included in the Russian Book of Records.
  • Another resident of the region mentioned above, also a long-liver, distinguished herself by giving birth to a child at... 79 years old. Grandma Ula became a mother for the first time, and this happened in 1963. The baby's father is the third spouse elderly woman, widower Tatym Margushev. Before this, Grandma Ula was married twice, but she never received children from any of her previous marriages. And here is such a gift from God! Ula raised the child herself, since her husband died when the boy was 4 years old. And she herself outlived her son: Ahmed died of cirrhosis of the liver at 42, but managed to give his mother grandchildren.
  • A 29-year-old resident has been named the youngest grandmother in our country. Nizhny Novgorod region. Her daughter followed in the footsteps of her parent, giving birth to a child at the age of 14 from a minor boy.
  • All records for the number of descendants were broken by the Russian grandfather Alexey Shapoval. The man has 13 children, who gave him a total of 117 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Almost the entire large and friendly family lives in one village, on their own land, and do manual labor.

Don't forget to congratulate your grandparents on October 28 on their holiday, Happy Grandparents' Day in Russia. Give them your attention and sincere wishes!

In 2015, a new date was marked in the Russian holiday calendar - October 28. From now on, on this day we celebrate new holiday– Grandmothers and Grandfathers Day in Russia. Dedicated to our beloved relatives, this holiday is filled with warmth and smiles, although Grandmothers' Day in Russia will be celebrated only for the third time in 2018.

Grandparents' Day is perhaps the youngest of modern holidays. He was born just a few years ago - in 2009, but in such a short period he has already gained popularity all over the world.

The birthplace of the holiday is Holland, the country of sincere smiles and tulips. Thanks to flowers, this day appeared - the initiator of Grandparents' Day was the Flower Bureau of the Netherlands. The authors of the holiday proposed giving flowering plants in small pots to older family members - this, according to representatives of the Bureau, should symbolize the warmth of feelings and love that we feel for our grandparents.

The idea of the holiday was liked first by residents of Europe and then America. Today Grandparents' Day is celebrated all over the world - in Germany and France, Sweden and Russia, Finland and Italy, Canada and Chile, the USA and Mexico. In our country, this holiday appeared seven years after its official registration in Holland. And the first to show support for the new Day, as in the Netherlands, were flower growers - thanks to them, the idea of giving flowers in pots to their closest relatives became very widespread.

Grandparents Day 2018 in the world

In 2018, a new holiday will be celebrated in more than thirty countries around the world. However, this Day does not have a single date - it is celebrated in mid-spring, summer, and even winter. In Russia, Grandmother's Day in 2018 will be celebrated on October 28 - in our country the date of the holiday remains unchanged.

In Canada, Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. It is customary to celebrate the holiday in the family circle - in this country children live separately from their parents and on Grandmother’s Day they come to visit with gifts and congratulations. Most Canadians traditionally go out into nature on this day - picnics in parks and green areas on this day are quite common.

There are similar celebration traditions in the USA. Here the holiday also falls at the beginning of autumn, and due to good weather, it is customary for the whole family to barbecue on this day. Relatives and neighbors are often invited to visit. The holiday ends with dinner with the family.

In France, family elders are honored on the first Sunday in March. In this country, Grandparents' Day is almost National holiday. Not only families, but also public and commercial organizations take part in the celebration. Thus, free tours for grandparents are organized to tourist places - by the way, the grandchildren accompanying them also travel for free. For older people, many stores have special prices on this day - all products are sold at large discounts. Restaurateurs also join in the celebration - in honor of the charming French grandmothers, a special menu appears, consisting of special, festive dishes.

The holiday in Italy is very noisy and fun. In this country, Grandparents' Day is celebrated in October, on the first Sunday of the month. Italians are family people; their reverence for elders is literally proverbial. Here the holiday is celebrated with family members - with a gala dinner, with many guests, with local young wine. Often the dinner ends with a small fireworks display, which is set off in the backyard to the delight of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In Poland, the holiday is divided into two parts: Poles feel grandparents for two days in a row, with January 21 entirely reserved for older women and January 22 for men. Over the course of several years, this country has developed interesting tradition: grandchildren come to their grandmothers with gifts, and grandmothers greet them with homemade baked goods - grandma’s sweet pie has become a real symbol of the holiday.

What traditions of Grandparents' Day will develop in Russia depends on you and me. Whether this holiday will be national, whether we will look forward to it with the same impatience as the Eighth of March - we and our children decide.

The closest, dearest and dearest people for every person are mom and dad. And in the second place of honor are, naturally, grandparents (and for some, in the first place, slightly displacing parents).

That is why the calendar of holidays and memorable dates in different countries the world has such an important holiday as Grandmothers' Day or Grandfathers' Day, or a holiday that unites both of them. Next, we will tell you about the history of the holiday and the traditions of honoring the main characters.

history of the holiday

Let it not seem strange, but the proposal to introduce a new holiday into the world calendar did not come at all from loving and deeply devoted grandchildren.

The initiators of the celebration were representatives of Holland who worked at the Flower Bureau. It was they who suggested setting aside a special day in the calendar to congratulate grandparents, who at that time seemed to be left out of the celebrations.

The same Flower Bureau workers suggested a way to congratulate dear people. Their proposal is completely understandable - the presentation of flowers; the Dutch at first had a clear commercial component of the project. This initiative was quickly picked up by Russian colleagues selling flowers, it is clear that for the same reason - to sell flowers and make money.

Despite this, the holiday in honor of beloved grandparents began to gain momentum, and traditions went far beyond the presentation of flowers.

When and how is the holiday celebrated in 2019?

Different countries around the world have their own holidays dedicated to the oldest and most respected members of the family. The Russian holiday is celebrated on October 28; it is symbolic that its date coincides with the ancient Slavic celebration dedicated to the family.

In 2019, October 28 falls on Monday, despite the difficult characteristics of this day of the week, you can have a lot of fun not only this day, but the whole week.

Naturally, start on Monday, handing flowers to your grandparents, according to tradition, and then, every day of the week, offer your beloved old people certain entertainments that are accessible to their health - theatre, cinema, exhibitions or just walks together.

Traditions and interesting facts of the holiday

The holiday is relatively new, it appeared on the calendar at the end of the twentieth century, so it does not yet have many traditions. It began with the initiative of presenting flowers to relatives, and the initiators insisted that the flowers should be alive, not cut, but growing in a pot.

There is a certain symbolism in this - cut flowers wither very quickly, and therefore remind people of withering and death. But flowers growing in a pot can bring joy for many, many years, and even remind you that they were presented during a special family celebration.

Grandparents' Day in Russia and abroad

The Russian holiday in honor of grandparents is still in its infancy, but many families are developing their own traditions. In addition to presenting potted flowering plants, parents and children prepare home concerts and performances, make homemade gifts, and set tables with the youngest members of the family.

In celebrating Grandparents' Day, you need to follow the French, who have on their calendar not just a celebration, but National Grandmothers' Day.

It is celebrated annually on March 4, at the highest level, and various shopping establishments, cultural institutions, and travel companies join the celebration.

For your favorite older French women, various discounts are offered in stores and shopping centers, bonuses and prizes.

Many cultural and entertainment institutions in France hold concerts, organize exhibitions and events, free of charge.

For curious grandmothers, I organize free tourist trips around cities and rich excursion programs. Restaurateurs are not far behind them, preparing special dishes for the festive dinner.

There is a holiday in honor of grandparents in the USA and neighboring Canada; it is celebrated in early September (the very first Sunday).

Residents of the American continent have their own tradition: since the days are still warm, families try to go out into nature.

Just as “nature has no bad weather,” so do people bad age, you can enjoy life, children and beloved grandchildren at any age.

Grandparents' Day has been celebrated every year on October 28 for almost ten years now. This is one of the youngest, and at the same time, the most sincere holidays that you want to remember and follow its traditions. This day is usually spent with family, in a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. In 2018, Grandparents' Day falls on Sunday, which is especially nice - because you can leisurely spend time with your closest and dearest people. What other rules exist for this day?

history of the holiday

It is interesting that the initiative to found and hold the holiday is attributed to Holland - the country of sincere smiles and fragrant tulips. After all, it was thanks to flowers that this day appeared. The authors of the holiday proposed giving flowering plants in small pots to family members - this was supposed to symbolize the warmth of feelings and love that we feel towards our grandparents.

Many people liked the idea of the holiday. First it was picked up by residents of Europe, and then America. Today Grandparents' Day is celebrated in more than 30 countries - France, Italy, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, Finland, Chile, Russia, America and Mexico. True, each country has its own characteristics of celebrating Grandparents' Day.

Holiday traditions

By the way, Grandparents Day does not have a single international celebration date. In Ukraine, since the times of Kievan Rus, it was in the fall that the holiday of honoring the family “autumn Grandfathers” came, and since these times we have had a respectful attitude towards the older generation. And in neighboring Poland it was divided into two parts: on January 21, they celebrate Grandmothers’ Day, and the next day, on January 22, they congratulate grandfathers. In Italy, celebrations take place on the first Sunday in October. In France, only Grandmothers' Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of March, and the day for Grandfathers is most likely to be allocated a little later. And so far, only in Turkey has Grandparents' Day been declared international and celebrated on February 8, the eve of Valentine's Day.

What to give and how to celebrate?

First of all - flowers. And there is a simple explanation for this: a houseplant is an eloquent symbol of the long-term family cycle. It is worth considering the fact that it is customary to give grandparents different flowers, observing the rules of “flower culture”. When looking closely at a bouquet, it is worth considering the meaning of a particular flower. For example, hibiscus is given to an elderly person with wishes of longevity and prosperity, geranium - for material wealth, a room rose - with the intention of emphasizing one’s warm feelings for the person to whom the gift is addressed. It is also not customary to spend this day noisily. It is enough to have a family tea party with sweets with your family, and be sure to express your love and gratitude to the older generation for their help, care and attention.
